Columbus for me tonight. 6-1 in the playoffs and only loss in overtime. Took em to win the cup as well, just seem built for the playoffs and great talent. 6-1 record vs 2 best teams record wise in the east. Hot team imo and goalie playing fantastic. If that hits I’ll play San Jose but first game is columbus

I really like Boston tonight. Top tier, experienced team, strong offense, off a loss, must win, home ice is not that big a factor though Columbus is tough. Lots of shots by Boston last game off the posts.
Also, small on SJ.
GL!

Didn't realize till afterwards but I made 5.86x more on Boston than the loss on SJ, this makes up for a lot of recent small bets lost...

Tonight, not much opportunity, also small leans, to Carolina and the Blues.

NYI might rally to avoid the sweep but Carolina seems to be the better team and should put them away, I am looking at a ML bet and a -1.5 in case NYI fold.

Dallas looked like the better team last game vs Blues but the Blues are off a loss, they were beaten by Winnipeg in similar fashion once in their first round series, this series is tied 2-2, the Blues are still more well balanced than Dallas and should rebound, through it could be another very tight game.

Not thrilled about either, but will make small moves on both, unless I see something later today (traveling).

i agree on Boston. As far as board being dead. I’m sure a lot of people just view and don’t comment. That’s usually me

I would still say, it's dead.

Respectfully, why didn't you explain why you liked Boston?

I understand the dynamics, but compared to football or hoops, the Hockey Forum, even during the PLAYOFFS, is unbelievably lifeless (flat, boring, uninteresting, dull...), there are no discussions, data, nor wagering rationales, no injury updates/insight, to speak of... sure a few picks here and there (usually with no backup) and there are some decent cappers.

i took a few days away from capping after the capitals lost, just needed a break. overall the playoffs have been great but wildly unpredictable for me. the one trend that appears to be paying is the third period overs. ill be looking into both of those tonight as well and may in game depending on how the games start off. id lean islanders in the first game since i would think the line should be higher and they should come out aggressive. despite being down 0-3 the games have been close, even the last one was even going into the third. islanders have missed a ton of chances just not being able to to score what appear to be easy put aways. frustrating when you back a team that does that and makes it hard to pull the trigger on them tonight.

Serbone, I can see why you think it is dead. However, the hockey forum has never really had alot of posters. Sherwood used to come in here all the time with great information and I haven't seen him in ages. I only post plays when I really like a game. I posted a couple of plays for the Stars/Blues series and went 1-1. I am not posting anymore plays for that series because I can't figure out what the Blues are trying to do. Game 2 they focused on shutting down the Stars top line and while that worked, the other lines stepped up. Game 3, they simply out muscled the Stars and won every facet of that game. Game 4 they looked like they hadn't played in two weeks. No physicality and really no game plan that I saw. They got killed when a win all but ends that series. Dallas' game plan is easy to figure -- they just try to skate past the big defenders, pinball the puck, and get shots off. St Louis, who knows? Not sure they do either which is why I'm watching that series now and not betting.
Thanks for your posts and threads. I read everyone one of them.

i was just saying i agreed on Boston on all the logic you provided. Especially since all the games have been one goal games and 2 went to OT. Also thought Boston was going to be more physical with Backes in lineup and it was a must win otherwise they go down 1-3. That’s all ha

skins you are a good capper, you provide good insight and rationale often when you post.

Blues were sloppy last night.
Today:
Boston & SJ both for regular sized plays (not small).

Pass today.
Blues might be playing on tired legs. They’ve played playoff hockey since the All Star break.
But cannot go against them since they seem to usually rise to the challenges the last 3 months.

I put a regular wager on the Blues -140 yesterday.
No insider stuff but I suspect Bishop is an issue.
It’s up to -160 now.
I know he skated yesterday and says he’s ok, but...
And Blues were the better team Sunday, deeper, too.

FYI.

They seem to finally have their shit together
, attitude is solid, they apparently believe they can make the playoffs and are going all out after the break.

I am hearing good things about them that does not sound like "just" the usual positive narrative BS.

They totally outplayed Columbus on the road the other night, IMO enough to have won by 3-4 goals. Got the loose pucks, forechecked relentlessly, far out shot them significantly, hit hard, word is they have jelled and see opportunity. Earlier in the year they were a clustershtook.

Especially when Binnington is in goal, I am going with them next 5 games or so, expect to do well.

Well I wish I had bet them every game, BIG (except regular season back to back and when Binnington was NOT in goal). I bet on them most of the games but usually small. Most Blues fans still cannot believe they have been so good after looking hopeless... a lot has to do with Binnington but the whole team has transformed under Berube, from a loose European style to a hard checking traditional NHL style. He is a great strategist, leader and players like him, too.

SJ is -130 for the series, I never bet series, but will take the Blues game by game as I see things develop. I like this matchup better than if they played speedy Colorado. The Blues need to pressure SJ defenders they are great with the puck, SJ has two good lines but their #3 and #4 are inferior to the Blues. Thomas is an emerging star, Maroon feeds off his efforts and scores. O'Reilly has faltered, I wonder if he is dinged or something. Tarasenko is one of the best in the NHL. Binnington is better than Jones and Jones can be rattled.

Blues dominated Stars the last two games, Bishop was able to keep them in the games.

Really believed Bishop would come up huge in Game 7, and he did. However, Binnington was just a little better. Amazing turnaround mid-season for the Blues.

Cheers!

Blues pummeled Bishop last half of game 7, outrageous number of shots. Yes Bishop played well but IMO Blues didn’t shoot well, either. Too often straight at him.
I made a play on Boston tonight, their offense is humming and their D has been solid all along.

HUGE opening game.
You sometimes do not know how teams match up in the playoffs till they take the ice and play a few periods.
I took The Blues tonight, ML + 114, regular play.
I think The Blues will attack the SJ scoring defensemen with 2 on the puck and try to take away a key SJ strength... SJ defensemen are scorers but not fast and vulnerable on turnovers, and / or breaks by the Blues.
The Blues defensemen are solid, and can score, too; top 2 defensive pairings are very tough to get around.
SJ Jones (G) has recovered from his first round disaster, but can be distracted, rattled, I will take Binnington in this spot.
SJ has a top notch #1 line, but The Blues have better depth at forward. 19 yo forward Thomas, on the 3rd line, is a surprise, is soaring to the top, a potential future star.
Both teams have had hard fights but IMO SJ stole the first series with that crazy 5 minute penalty (NHL confirmed it was a mistake) and the ridiculous offside that took away a goal that would have tied the match at 2-2. Huge momentum shift...
Hey this game might be 2-2 in the third and everyone will be worried, whichever side you have.
Blues outshot Dallas 31-4 late in game #7, dominated game #6, too, they are in sync.
For me... I have been riding them since Feb 4 (though not enough): The Blues!

I will go with the Blues Monday, probably small.
They lost 6-3 but, the Blues were not out played, out skated, out shot, nor out hit, and:

  • first SJ goal (early) was off a crosschecking by SJ that was not called and resulted in an odd man rush
  • one SJ goal was off a 5-3 power play that some think the penalties were not playoff caliber penalties at all
  • one SJ goal was hit twice in the air, sure, a valid goal, but also a rarity
  • one SJ goal was a fluke bounce from behind the net on a centering pass that intended to be a one timer
  • one SJ goal was empty net
A key thing to look at, every game, is that SJ only pressured the Blues with a strong flurry for about 5-6 minutes, the Blues pressured SJ 10-12 minutes, but could not put the puck in the net.
The Blues made some sloppy passes that resulted in some turnovers, other than tightening up their approach, they do not need to make "adjustments" to their game.
It is hockey, crazy things happen, but the Blues were not outplayed, Binnington played well, and the advantage they had in pressure time is significant.
