The guy they got for Harden, Sean Gallagher, is pitching very well in his first start. Going against a strong Angels offense.

Has given up just 2 hits in 5 innings and has 7Ks. Billy knows what he is doing.

Forgot to bet this. Gallagher is a good "play-on" pitcher for the first few starts.

Funny you of all people mention Butt boy billy Beane

Gay Celebrity Profile: Billy Bean

Billy Bean was a star major league baseball player until the internal conflict of being gay in a homophobic sports world forced him to rededicate his life to gay advocacy. He's now a public speaker and author.

See how being an openly gay former major league baseball player has opened up Billy Bean to a new kind of fan.

I kept saying Gallagher is going to be an ace someday, but few believed he was anything more than a number 3 pitcher.

Harden will be great for the Cubs, but the A's won this trade as usual. Beane is the best there is.

Harden will fit in very nice for the Cubs if he stays healthy. That is a big IF considering his past visits to the DL.

Wait a second...

So, what you're telling me is: professional baseball GM, w/ a long track record of successful executive decisions...should be trusted more so, than the 22 yr old rx poster who once lost a bet on Gallagher? Who could probably have a difficult time seperating the pitcher 'Gallagher' & the watermelon smashing, Gallagher in a police lineup.

Always makes me laugh how posters are so quick to criticize, when someone like Beane has obviously did "some" homework & should get some benefit of the doubt. Especially of all the video, scouting reports, etc that the typical casual fan does not get to analyze.

Harden's been to the DL so often they fixed him. No more injuries he fixed.

Had a car like that once took in to get fixed and gave them 300. After the next year and 10 problems, probably about 4K in fixes we sold it, cause it just had too many proplems. Well it did have problems. We fix them all. Now I see the car on the street everywhere. "We fixed everything"

Same thing with my man Harden

Not exactly the same thing as a car...

The more he gets hurt the more likely he is to get hurt again. There's a reason the same people get hurt over and over again. It isn't all just a coincidence.

Pretty obvious he is the key to the trade. Beane saw something in him as those offensive players they got don't necessarily fit the A's profile.

It is possible that both teams made a good deal for their ballclub. The Cubs improving their WS profile this year and next and the A's adding players and shaping roster for the future.

I like Gallagher, though don't annoint him after one game. He had a few really good starts this year for the Cubs too. He has good stuff though. Cubs didn't want to unload him but he had to be the main part of the deal. Cubs should have their rotation for next year plus Jeff Samarzdia is expected to contribute before long.

anybody see mulder the other nite? he's finished. i don't even remember what the a's got for him. but whatever it was, it was better that what the cards got. what the cards got, was a big multi million dollar bill to pay mulder's salary. that will be the same thing the cubs get with harden.

go A's, Fish, Twins & Rays.

Calero, Daric Barton and Danny Haren, who was subsequently traded for Carlos González, Brett Anderson, Aaron Cunningham, Greg Smith, Dana Eveland, and Chris Carter

And, Billy Beane is the GM, Billy Bean is the homo

Harden's remaining contract is a club option only for 7 mil next year and that's it. So your statement about a bill is just wrong. Harden's contract is puny and if Harden gets injured this year the Cubs can cut ties with no money owing. Only risk was trading away a solid prospect in Gallagher. A very good risk/reward. And A's did what they had to do also. Good move on both sides IMO.

Basically the Cubs made themselves likely a better team for the rest of this season and next and the A's made themselves a better team for the following 3-5 years.

Beane basically acknowledging that he doesn't expect to compete for a championship this year or next. An admirable thing in some sense as most GM's prefer to delude themselves and their fans.

The Angels' offense is fourth-worst in the league.
