I'm out, 907th. Pretty ugly situation that I couldn't do anything about. Woman had been raising, raising, raising and of course she raises my big blind again. I have 89s so I call. 13k now in pot. Flop QJT, i check, she bets 8k, i make it 24k, she calls. Turn is 5 of diamonds giving me the flush draw also, pot now 61k, I shove, she calls and naturally has AK. No flush on the river, I'm crippled down to 14k or so, I shove 14k with A5 on 1k/2k blinds and 67 beats me when a 7 turns.

Matt was short stacked and it goes round for round when you get towards the cash bubble. There wasn't much he could do.

I'm not apoker pro by any means, but I do not understand how Matt played this hand (what he was thinking his oppenent had, etc). Maybe its becuase I already know the outcome.

Any real players read on the hand would be appreciated.

He said she was raising every hand, so it's not like he could put her on Ace King. There was only one hand that could beat him, plus he had the flush draw. Kid wasn't trying to cash at the WSOP. He was trying to win the whole damn thing, and I have a helluva lot of respect for that.

Calling preflop with a hand like that is fine with a big chip stack and against an aggressive player who may donk away all their chips if you flop a monster. When he flops a straight and then turns a flush draw there is no way you can fold that hand. Not if he wants to win the tournament. Even if he was up against AK or K-9 he had a flush draw. I suppose if he was trying to cash he could have folded, but that would be like laying up on the 18th at the masters needing an eagle to win.

Also by most accounts the players at the WSOP ME this year are atrocious and playing many marginal hands for their entire stack.

I see Matt was playing to win the tourney not to survive. There is NO WAY you lay down a straight on the flop. He played it the way you play tournaments to win 1st place!!!!

Matt I liked your site and hope for your continued success.

I think it's more like a lot of winning hands being folded because people are scared to get involved in a pot because if they do, someone is going to come over the top, and hard. If you raise someone, you better be ready to fold or go all in....

Agree with the above few posts. He didn't post up 10K just to get it back. Had the nuts to say screw you I wanna win, unlike 90% of the vaginas in the feild...this time it didn't work out but i admire it.
