im not sure that hes as great a recruiter as everyone makes him out to be. he gets 90% of his guys from his state. texas puts deadlines on guys to commit and if they dont commit by then, they'll take back their offer. they did that with l creer last year, an all american rb from texas, and he ended up at tennessee. kids in texas want to go to texas. stoops has taken some great players from that state in recent year....this year is no different.

I don't like him, but he did recruit well at UNC too. They are perennially in the top 5 in recruiting classes, so he is doing something right even if he is in a deep and talented state sitting in the most desired office.

hahahaha, he was exposed pretty bad this year for what he doesn't know about coaching college football. I don't think he will make that mistake in future years.

Dennis Erickson is a top 10 (maybe 15) coach in college football. Two rings, and he took Oregon State, arguably the worst program in 50 years, almost to the top (and if they weren't called Oregon State, to the top). He also coached ASU "up" to 10-2...there is not 10-2 talent on that team, and if Koetter was still the coach they would probably won 7 games at best. Erickson can get a kid to run through a brick wall...sometimes getting kids to just believe in themselves ups their game twofold.

Erickson does have a nice resume. Not impressive in the only 2 games that counted this yr. His team was unprepared and overwhelmed

yeah i know hes a good one, but he gets credit was one of the best 2-3 and i just dont think that he is. maybe he is....but imo he is not. look at a guy like fulmer that is in the top 10 in recruiting every year and never has any in state talent. id rank fulmer over mack as a recruiter.

Because ASU is simply not that good. Very few coaches could have got that team to 10-2. But hey, your boy Chuck Long has the Aztecs going in the right direction for sure.

UT was not very good this year but they still win 9-10 games every year. he did win a Nat Champ against a very good USC team so it's doubtful that he's horrible.

horrible may be an over statement, but I do not think he is a good coach. Vince Young covered for a lot of his deficiencies (which are exposed in virtually every big game he coaches w/o Young, both before and after) and unless he gets another VY type talent, I would be surprised if he ever wins another conference title (he only has one in his career). 9 wins with that talent, in a typically shallow conference with a customarily piss poor non-conf schedule (save the OSU home and home) is the bare minimum he should win.

Very good list, but all guys (except hawkins) in low pressure situations. We saw what the spotlight does when Hawkins went from mild-mannered laid back low pressure Boise State to high pressure, win now Big 12 Colorado. He will be fine, but it's a whole new ball of wax when you are at a top 15 program, or in Hawkins case, top 30.

"ASU is simply not that good", yet you want them in the BCS? Very few coaches would have gotten then to 10-2? against this pathetic shedule? In reality, ASU should be mad they didn't win one of the 2 meaningful games they played. When will they ever have such a perfect set-up for a special season?

Being a great coach and great recruiter are different things.

Saban and Mack Brown, two examples of great damn recruiters. Mack Brown, example 1a of not a great game day coach.

Hawkins led Buffs to bowl game, 7-5 record, and win over Oklahoma, despite recruit limitations (this is where you say Neuheisel/Barnett).

Agreed that it is easier to win in where you haven't won before versus a year-in, year-out power.

Despite ASU schedule bias, no doubt Erickson has proven he is a terrific college coach. Whormoan won't even debate that.

Dipshit, maybe you didn't notice, but Kansas is playing in the BCS, as is Illinois. I forgot, you think Texas A&M is a powerhouse and the Big 11 is the best football conference in america.

Too bad Oklahoma couldn't beat Colorado, they'd probably be playing in the national championship.

Kansas and Texas both won at A&M,a tough place to play and a better road win than ASU had all season. Illinois won AT Ohio State. Oklahoma lost AT Colorado. ASU didn't win AT anywhere of significance

Yeah, my point on Hawkins is he did blow a gasket, and you can visibly see the pressure is 10 times higher now than it ever was at Boise State. Still a very good coach, I'd take him in a heartbeat over Riley, and he'd probably be coaching at OSU if OSU would have let him bring in his own guys.

Of course broken record will debate it.

Last time I saw A&M play they were getting bitch slapped by Cal. Please, don't spin A&M as being a good football team, it makes me disrespect you more.

Nobody said they are a good team, but they are a tough victory ON THE ROAD, tougher than any ASU had this yr. Last time I saw Cal play they were getting bitch-slapped by Stanford, and Cal was supposedly ASU's big win this yr. If not Cal, who? Where's the good road win?
