any small business owners here?

I have owned a few.

I owned a Car Wash in Tampa with a partner that was somewhat succesfull until he started a new career that consumed him and neither of us was hands on enough.

Owned a lawn service in Tampa for about 2 years that involved me putting up the capital and letting a friend do all the work and me the selling of accounts. It was very succesfull once we landed a few apartment buildings, but he wanted to move and I sold it.

Was partners in a mortgage company that did OK before the licensed broker got addicted to crack and took off.

Currently own a pool hall / bar that I want to get away from because it is just too much of a drain for someone like myself who has problems controlling addictions. I am a full fledged achoholic now and really need to get away from it. I took 4 months off and business went to SHIT and cost me 2 of my life long friends who I let run the place. I am back up to almost a full 1.75 bottle of Vodka a day and sleep about 3 hours a day. Either I unload it or I will be dead in 10 years.

My best advice is do not fall for any of those bullshit pyramid scams as I have been talked into almost all of them and never made any money back.

Seriously would consider renting a apartment and starting a poker game if I did not have a past federal gambling conviction. I know of a few here and they do very, very well. Get people in the car business as they are all degenerates and run the game 2-3 nights a week.

The big "Car Game" here brings in the house an easy 3k a night.

DAMN! Is the 3K just off the rake? They must be doing something else for revenue and/or it's a REALLY high-stakes game

5-10 pot limit holdem

They rake in $3K on a 5-10? I call BS!
5% rake on $100 avg pots, 50 hands/hour = $250/hour

Or looking at it another way, if 15 players walked in with $200, you'd have to bust ALL of them just to make the house nut. Not a good way to keep your game going.

It's either a really long game or they're running multiple tables.

Like I said they are degenerates. I have palyed in the game probably 25 times and I would say that I have not seen 25 pots seeing the river with less than $200. It is a virtual lock that a minimum of 2 guys lose 4k per night at that game. They had a guy lose 15k in a 10 hour game once. It really is stupid and they have too much cash for me to play with them. I go and take a 1k shot now and then, but just get too pissed off to play on a regular basis.

I'm obviously highly underestimating the level of car salesmen degenerates :lolBIG:

I agree with you though - the right private game with the right players can make a mint for the ones willing to run it.

I should clarify that these guys are the owners of "buy here, pay here" lots.

want to revisit this topic...

anyone have any new ideas? Having worked at Good Will for a bit now, I was thinking of buying items and posting on eBay - but that would require a lot of research on each item purchased to be sold.

Cleaning business was my other idea, have employees use their own cars. Only major expense would be insurance/bonding I'd think?

internet forum isn't a bad idea (was posted above, maybe as a joke?) - software isn't that expensive and neither is hosting these days... but it seems more like a longterm investment.

Really want to start something of my own, but don't have much money to do it. I do have a lot of experience in customer service & management though, and have become very good at selling myself. My feeling has always been that, for the most part, if you're willing to put in more work than the next guy and can formulate your own ideas that you'll succeed.

I am a REo broker. I started it all with a small investment. I bought a house 2 years ago and I have a friend that runs a 1/2 NL game 3 nights a week. My game rakes 110.00 on a hourly avarage. The dealers take anything over the 110.00 + tips. We usually have 2 tables for a total of 5-9 hours per night. The remaining table runs for another 3-5 hours. This really is a CASH COW!

Avarage 2200 in rake X 3 nights = 6600 cash per week.
Our best week ever was 8200
