Backgammon

How did you know you would list that one?

Cribbage is the best combination of strategy and mindlessness of any game ever. Would like to play high stakes against anyone, but never found any takers.

Surprised Trivial Pursuit (or any of it's knockoffs) hasn't been mentioned. Go with the all sports versions

Almost impossible to not go with Chess. You can always play odds to give weaker players a chance, especially if you have a clock

As a child my fav board game was wildlife where players were zoo keepers and you had to travel the globe and collect animals. ....it was also educational both for zoology and geography.

As an adult I still occasionally play Yahtzee.

probably backgammon or yahtzee.... simply because I still enjoy playing it.

when I was young, I loved monopoly, checker, trouble or chuttes and ladders.

when I got older i loved chess, taboo, and a few others....now I still won't get bored with a game of risk, backgammon or yahtzee.

Monopoly overrated. Not much strategy and mostly comes down to dice roll.

Chess is good, but need people of comparable skill level.

Scrabble is good, but can't really play with random people online cause a lot of people cheat. "Word Wars" a good documentary about eccentric pro scrabble players.

Backgammon is good because it involves skill and strategy but also enough luck that it allows for more people to be able to play competitively with one another.

Best game to play with a kid is Connect 4 . Really makes them think a few moves ahead.

Played 100's of times with my daughter as she was growing up.
