That list was too much.

If you stop in Vegas. Go to Memphis Championship BBQ on Warm Springs and Eastern.(Not too far from where Wayne Newton lives) and you'll have a great time. The best BBQ you ask?.......That's for you to decide. Recomendations are brisket, mac n cheese, and beans.

Very ironic that I come across this post as I had just gone through KC.

Arthur Bryants is pretty damn good.

Others in KC that I've heard are good are Gates, Oklahoma Joes and one that I cant seem to remember.

Famous Dave's is really good too. Had it in Missoula MT and Lincoln NE and loved it both times.

That angle is not working for you. Try another one.

What angle are you talking about? You think all these BBQ places in Texas and NC enter some random BBQ contest in Minnesota or Cleveland? Just saying that awards don't really tell you much.

Agree to disagree on this one but saying Famous Daves compares to down home southern BBQ is like saying Taco Bell is as good or better than some of the best mexican food in America.

I don't think Famous Dave's is in the top 5 or 10 percent if that's what you mean. Those restaurants don't enter contests so we agree on that. I was more addressing the point that you said that it is crap. Yes, it may be crap to you and I'll give you your own opinion. I was trying to make the point that it is pretty good to lots of other people and I don't mean like Olive Garden or Taco Bell because they have so many stores.

i went to some place in memphis thats famous for bbq (some place by tpc southwind). to be honest it was good but nothing knocked my socks off, although the bbq beans were great. i go to a place in la (baby blues bbq) and the corn bread and sides are just as good, meat is also good. maybe i need more experience with southern bbq, but compared ti what i had baby blues wasnt dog shit. would be very interested in the world famous bbq though

hate eastern nc bbq, tastes like greasy roast pork and looks like dog food.
every town around here has at least one famous bbq joint. mama dip's, bullocks, wilbur's, ...
the best around to me are dickeys from tx. and red hot and blue from memphis.
watch DDD if you want to see some awesome bbq places.

If you're ever in Gardena try Jaybee's BBQ. It's on a small triangular block at the corner of Avalon and Alondra a couple miles north of the 91. It looks like a shack but Guy Fieri was there with Dives, Diners and Drive-Ins.

I like the pulled pork sandwich and I'm not much of a pork eater. It has cabbage on it and the sauce is very good. Nice and tangy.

Oh yeah, don't go at night unless you look like you belong in the neighborhood.

i live by the beach so im never really over there, but maybe one weekend ill make a small road trip over there with my boys (if its the area im thinking of im not going there alone), so thanks for the heads up. if you in santa monica you should try baby blues, its on lincoln and rose. really good ribs and chicken sandwiches, and you have to get the mac and cheese and cornbread. not sure how it compares to southern bbq but its the best ive had in the area

You will love both places. There is also Blacks and the Chisholm Trail but I would pass on those.
Try Kreuz without the sauce first. Let me know what you think after your trip. Hope you enjoy your lunch.

We hit the whole Lockhart trifecta today: Kreuz, Smitty's and Black's. The brisket at Smitty's was a little better than at Kreuz, but the sausage at Kreuz was much, much better than Smitty's. (The links at Smitty's weren't just disappointing, but downright bad. I didn't even finish one).

Black's had good turkey, but that was about all. It's not in the same league at all with the other two places.

Snow's still holds the No. 1 spot for me by a decent margin. If you get a chance to make the drive to Lexington (outside Taylor), it's worth it. Make sure you go on a Saturday, which is the only day they're open, and get there early. They start serving at 8am and close when the meat runs out, which is often by noon.

My own bit of barbecue snobbery here: If you put sauce on barbecue you're not really eating barbecue. It's just meat covered in fancy ketchup.

Never had any bad bbq while down in Carolinas. Even the small roadside honkytonk joints were better than most. If I had to make one negative jab I'd say they could stand to make it a little hotter but thats just my preference with all things spicy.

Disagree with you here Scoops.

In the West, when you say BBQ, that means grilling meat on a barbeque. When you say BBQ in the South, that means pulled pork etc. To me, ribs are put on the grill and BBQ'd.

Late to the party here boys, but I'm not a big fan of Carolina BBQ as I'm not really into Mustard ~ I'm much more into a vinegar base.

Has anyone tried Dreamland BBQ? Started out in Tuscaloosa, Alabama with a small shack. Menu was half a rack or a whole rack. Served with white bread for soakin up the sauce.

Got a few places now (Birmingham, Mobile & Atlanta).

i went to some place in memphis thats famous for bbq (some place by tpc southwind). to be honest it was good but nothing knocked my socks off, although the bbq beans were great. i go to a place in la (baby blues bbq) and the corn bread and sides are just as good, meat is also good. maybe i need more experience with southern bbq, but compared ti what i had baby blues wasnt dog shit. would be very interested in the world famous bbq though

I work right by Southwind and there aren't any bbq places right by here but the closest would have to be Commisary. If that is the place it is a small place right by the train tracks in Germantown. The only other closest places would be Neely's or Corkeys which you would probably remember. Im going to bet you went to Commisary and I would agree that their ribs aren't the best but they do have one of the best pulled pork sandwiches in town.

Most people here will tell you that the Rendevous has the best dry ribs and it is between Corkeys and Neely's for wet ribs although there are a ton of other places that would beg to differ. Alot of it comes down to which sauce you like and I will tell you after going to all of these places many times they can be hit or miss depending upon the day of the week you show up.
