I don't see Arizona trading him to the Yankees. I'd make them 4th choice to get him. The only way for sure I see them getting him is if Boston is close to getting him.

Arizona will let Johnson go...I was shocked they gave him that multi year deal so late in his years... This is a team that had to borrow against MLB to make payroll....And they were drawing very nicely when they did....face it EGD baseball is a mess!!!

I will give you this, some teams are cheap bastards, such as Chi Cubs, Giants and some have dumb owners Bal, Tex, ChiSox...But there are also great organizations who must make do with next to nothing..Fla, Minn, KC, Oak, and somehow they have hung in...No matter how its sliced MLB needs a cap!!!

I really have nothing against the Yanks even...or George, its not his fault, you're right...but they do have an unfair advantage.

I don't disagree that MLB is a mess. I just don't think it is George's fault like alot of people like to say.

If I recall Minnesota's owner use to be another one who pocketed money. Maybe it was the former owner as didn't they change owners in the last couple of years?

Well Minnesota when owned by Calvin Griffith was a notorious penny pincher....he did spend when he broke the bank on Rod Carew, Larry Hisle and the late Lyman Bostock etc...but that goes back a ways...and they still never won...

I dont care what anyone says, Boston could definatly be spending more $$. there is no way in the world with that enormous nationwide fanbase "RSN" that they cant be spending like the yankees give or take 20 million.

Rob..Fenway Park attendance does hurt Boston revenue....
In the old days they use to say it worked for them , because fans would be forced to buy up all the limited seats early in the year...just in case Boston was alive in August and September, fans would secure these tickets...but nowadays 32,000 fans isn't enough...

A's land Sheets with one-year deal

Righty returns after missing a year due to elbow surgery

By Alden Gonzalez / MLB.com

The Athletics signed free-agent starter Ben Sheets to a one-year deal on Tuesday, according to multiple reports.

The agreement is for $10 million plus performance bonuses, SI.com reported. CBSSports.com said the contract is worth "more than $8 million."
The 31-year-old right-hander has passed a physical, and according to CSNBayArea.com, will be introduced to the media in Oakland at 1 p.m. PT.
Sheets missed the entire 2009 season after undergoing elbow surgery, but he reportedly wowed scouts during a throwing session in Louisiana last Tuesday. The Cubs, Mets, Rangers and Mariners were among other teams reportedly interested in his services. Sheets' last full season, 2008, was with the Brewers -- the organization with which he spent all eight of his big league years -- when he went 13-9 with a 3.09 ERA and three shutouts in 31 starts. The four-time All-Star is 86-83 with a 3.72 ERA in his career.

I like the deal. I doubt they trade Sheets though. He comes relatively cheap and is only signed up 1 year.

that's exactly the reason why they will trade him. lol. if he pitches lights out they will get back major prospects again for next to nothing just like they always do.

I just don't see that happening. There was very little interest in him this offseason and it's because of his injury concerns. Even if he strings together a fairly healthy year, he's still a 31-year old pitcher with major injury concerns. The guys that Oakland has swapped for big prospects in the past haven't been so sketchy. They might move him when out of contention but I can't see them getting much back. The new team will have to resign him to a much larger contract if he produces this year and there are not many teams in a hurry to sign one of the most injured (and now aging) pitchers.

Look at Billy Beane's track record, he will be traded for prospects if the A's get something decent in return.
