What to do with them??

rainy day here so I went through my cards from when I was a kid. McGuire rookie card. Jordan. griffey Jr. Sosa. etc etc. over 2000 cards. checked a website found a McGuire he king card worth 10 grand.

do I sell these online? do I price them and go? do they buy all even if not worth much? any advice/tips appreciated

I know I was a big collector as a kid and saved these but I did not know these cards would turn out to be legends.

thanks

Matt, the card you think are the most valuable Id have graded..(PSA, etc)...then put them online or auction them...unfortunately, with the economy and over production, a lot of collections arent worth much anymore...good luck

Only certain cards pull in the big bucks these days. Not much value in the rest, only worth what someones willing to pay.

You should just hold on to them and pass them on to your next generation.

well I knew u wouldn't get big money but they have to be worth something worth while.

I obviously knew I wouldn't get that much for the McGuire card but a Mickey mantle rookie card and Brett favrookie card. even a few hundred bucks is better than nothing

u have a mickey mantle rookie card? - not to be skeptical, but its probably not original... and is it the 1951 bowman (real rookie) or the 1952 topps (what card collectors consider/call the rookie)

i highly doubt any mgguire card is worth 10k.. not sure which website u seen.

in any case post some pics and info about the cards in particular u wonder about and i will tell u exactly how much these are "worth" and what they are "FMV" whether ebay or another auction source at.

feel free to ask any questions as I know quite a lot about the card industry and value... although I do focus more on 40s-60s era. If u want pm me... but I assume u arent looking for privacy since u posted the questions on the open board, so all help is here :)

Totally agree w/ this.

I'm 40 years old, so most of my cards are from the mid-70's through early/mid-80's (when I lost interest). I have MLB and NFL cards....not sure what they are worth, but most are in pretty good condition. I plan to just hold on to them and - hopefully - give them to my grandson (if I ever have a grandson)....

I have the first set Topps put out for Football 1955 Topps All-American Set. All cards PSA 6 or higher and I every now and then upgrade my cards from 6 to 7, 7 to 8 etc.

I would say hold on to them the economy is not conducive to selling cards right now......

If someone else had a collection with similar pieces would you be willing to pay a couple hundred?

I remember the day when my Jack Kemp and Jim Palmer rookie cards were worth a few hundred each. Now they are $20 a pop on Ebay. Bummer.

its all about autographs, low serial #ed/rare, and whatever the new product/rookie class is. Unless your peyton manning, tom brady, pujols etc you are hot 1 minute and forgotten the next

kidman, I agree. I have a Tim Tebow autographed football that he signed when he committed to play at UF (late December of 2005). He signed it "Timmy Tebow #5 Go Gators!"

He ended up wearing #15 at UF (and now in the NFL) due to a senior at UF already wearing #5 when he got there. I probably could have gotten over $1000 when he won the Heisman. I doubt I could get a few hundred $$ now....

With the fast moving technology era in full swing, the old card collecting days have faded away along with values.

Without looking at your collection I would be shocked if you could get $100 total for all your cards.

I highly doubt you have a real Mickey Mantle rookie card.

Im not doubting YOU.

I dont think you are lying to us.

I think that you think you have one, but you dont.

Anyone who has a real MM rookie card knows what its worth.

my mom has a bunch of mickey mantle cards, dont remember if any were rookies, or more so 2nd and 3rd year cards. Only problem with them is they are beat to shit cracks, soft corners etc. im sure someone would still buy them to have them, but nothing close to what a nrmt could pull in. i doubt she even knows what drawer they are in. on a sidce note since mantle was brought up, here is a framed mantle i got her for christmas a yr or so ago.

I used to be obesssed with baseball cards. Of course, my obbession happened to be at the height of the market when I was 12yrs old back in the mid 80's and paid top dollar for them. Lost interest as I got older abviously, but still kept the cards. Now the market has dropped considerably and the premium prices I paid back 20+ yrs ago aren't worth that much today. Though I've never thought about selling any of them, I like knowing that I do have them and that I can pass them down. They bring back good memories of my youth.
