Question why did Giant pitcher Ruben Gomez once sprint to the centerfield clubhouse like a madman.

Probably because a very mad (HPB) Joe Adcock was chasing him.

I don't know. But surely there may never be another player with zero home runs with as many at bats as Posednik who then hits 2 post season home runs.

Liddle was primarily a ground ball pitcher hence Mays was playing somewhat shallow in the cavernous Polo Ground centerfield area.

I recall stories about him being a bean ball pitcher, no? My first guess would he ran after someone charged the mound? When you use the word "madman" it sounds like he was going after somebody though.

Correct Will and Adcock [ a big man former LSU baskets player] was waving his bat at the same time while chasing Gomez. Man I would have liked to have seen that.

What manager gave Hall of Famer Roy Campanella his first regular starting job as catcher for the Dodgers?

I just looked up the incident and from the description it sounds hilarious. The article I found says that Gomez beaned Adcock and as Adcock was charging the mound Gomez threw another ball at him hitting him in the thigh. Adcock chased him with a bat and Gomez escaped out of the stadium through the New York dugout.

His punishment was a three game suspension...

Well then it was that guy that blew the pennant for the '69 Cubs. Actress Lorraine Day's husband Leo "The Lip" Durocher.

He was the captain of the Cardinals' "Gashouse Gang" in 1934.

Speaking of Durocher how about the famous quote from scribe Dick Young.
May not get the words exactly right.

You and Durocher are stranded on a liferaft. He falls out. You jump out and save him but a shark bites your leg off. Next day you and him start out even.

Here's one. I actually got to meet this guy and become friends with him and he shared a number of stories with me this one included.

He's a manager and he got a young infielder from the Kansas City Monarchs of the old Negro League in the mid 50's. The kid had no other organized baseball experience. The kid was so shy and scared that this manager only played him on the road in the beginning. Player became somebody you all know of and is in the HOF.

So who was the player and who was the manager?
