Chuck Essegian, a journeyman pro in the 50's while playing for the L.A.Dodgers, did something only one other MLB player has ever done. What was it, when did he do it and who was the other player to accomplish the same feat?
I guess you are saying I am wrong....I was thinking only him and Gibson had done it, couldn't think of anyone else....have alot of people done that? I would not have thought so....
Phigment correct. Essegian hit two pinch hit home runs in the Series against the White Sox in 1959. In 1975 Red Sox Bernie Carbo did the same in the Series against the Reds.
Famous catch by Willy Mays off the bat of Cleveland Indians 1st baseman Vic Wertz -- The question is: Who was the Giants' pitcher that Wertz tagged for the long out?
Single biggest home run in Red Sox history. Fisk's HR later in the game gets all the pub, but the game was OVER before Carbo hit the three run homer. Fisk's homer won the game, but had he not hit it, the game still would have been tied.
I would even put this ahead (though barely) of Henderson's HR in the '86 ALCS and Ortiz's Game 4 HR last year.
I was reading this morning that Podsednik's HR last night was the first walk-off homer in a World Series by a player who previously had zero homeruns that season. Given all those variables I assume it will be a long time before someone ties that record but I wonder if there have been any players who have had zero HRs until the World Series and then knocked one out?
This is not a trivia question because I don't know the answer.
