Reporter interviewing a mom on CNN. Mom is on the phone with her daughter who is waiting at the Marriott for her mom to come pick her up. Mom tells the daughter into the phone (while the reporter holds the mic up to the mom) "Yeah, I'll be right there. As soon as I do this interview, I'll be right there. Okay. Bye. Love you." Hangs up phone. There's a little boy with her who she hands the phone to (assuming it's her young son, the teen daughter's little brother,) and then the mom engages with the reporter to answer the reporter's questions. The phone rings immediately, little boy picks it up, hands it to his mom. "Mom, it's Sofia again." "Okay, tell her I'll call her back right after the interview." She grabs the phone, doesn't put it to her ear, just says into the receiver, "I'll call you right back after this interview," and hangs up.
Typical liberal mom

What really hit me today is the total lack of awareness by the kids when being interviewed. They just seem so "matter of fact" like this is normal. Some of them just witnessed death and they just stood there and did the interview without emotion. No sadness, panic, nothing.

Now, some of that could be because of the situation and shock. I don't know.

Enfuego,

the kids practice situations like this in school. My kids were under a “code red” and knew exactly what to do

No, I understand. I'm talking about the lack of empathy. They saw dead kids and were talking as if it was a video game.

I agree with where you are going with the video games but I think it could be more of the shock of the event and then a camera shoved in your face.

Believe me this has affected the kids emotionally more than you can believe. My daughter has many friends that go to that school and was texting the kids during the shooting. These kids are devastated. Many of the kids were probably hiding their true emotions during the interviews.

In 1.5 months? seems high, really disturbing if that's the case

It isn't.

To get to "19 school shootings" you count 2 instances where people committed suicides on a school ground and 3 instances where someone fired a gun at a college and nobody was injured.

The school also has cops that work there. If someone wants to kill bad enough, there really isn’t a lot more you can do outside of keeping guns out of the hands of crazy people. But for some damn reason the NRA and many of its supporters don’t want that, and they pay a shit ton to politicians to fight it.

It isn't legal for crazy people to purchase or possess firearms in America.

You don't understand anything about America's firearms laws.

The media coverage of this can't possibly help. They are playing cell phone videos of the shootings on the news over and over.
Why is that necessary?

What measures would have prevented this? The ole limp noodle gun control talking point.

But to me, that's even weird Kenny. During a shooting at a school where 17 kids die, people are texting? I get the 911 text but texting is the last thing I'd be doing if I heard gunshots.

Listen, if it were me I would be worried about keeping safe but we see this every day where the first thing people do is turn on the videos on their phones. I saw the texts. The kids were scared for their lives. I saw some horrific images. I think as the realty sinks in all of these kids are going to have live with what they witnessed for the rest of their lives. Sad.
