hey there

If you were to be a bookie. i dont even consider this being a bookie, anyways, but taking in a couple k of bets per day off of 5 guys. how would you go about it . Which site would you use for lines if you were to use a site? If i took bets i take bodog. I also do alot of the work from my cell phone and it gets arduous bc/ bodog is a huge site. and getting lines and texting back and forth isnt as quick. do you know of any sites that work really well with cell phones?

Do you know of a software that makes it real easy on bookies for recording the players bets and calculating profits/losses. basically any advice to improve this would be great. thanks.

First of all welcome to the RX. As to your question, all my life the bookie has been my enemy and I try to beat the **** out of him, so I am the wrong person to ask. May I suggest you start a thread, just as you have written, in our Bookie Chat Forum just below our Offshore Forum. Pretty sure you'll get some good answers to your questions. Best of luck.

Hey Ted I been wondering.. I'm not really new, been doing it for a few years I've come up with a few systems that are really profitable in two of my Australian sport also cricket and wnba. I doing well in baseball unders but that might be more of a short term thing. Ive turned 3k into 10k easy and I know everyone has their bad runs but i feel with backtracking etc. that these systems should easily stay profitable. If my bankroll was say 10 or 20 times bigger I could live of this shit? Im trying to be realistic but dunno if its just jumping the gun. Also what % of bankroll do you recommend betting, I've been doing about 1/35th per bet which is working well and seems pretty safe. Also will my bookie kick me out soon? I use the biggest or 2nd biggest in Australia.

Old Man Ted good info! I like what you said about this business being a marathon not a sprint. There will always be another play another day and one should not get caught up in just one game. Thanks a lot for the knowledge and I will definitely come back on here if I have another question.

First of all great to hear you have found something that works for you and that you have been able to turn 3K into 10K. To answer your questions, at that level, it is unlikely that your book in Australia will kick you out. They may reduce your betting limit first but long before they ever kick you out. Now if your bankroll was 10 to 20 times bigger and you were wagering 10 to 20 times more per play, then it is likely you would have been reduced already. As for the percentage per bet, it appears based on the 1/35th, you are now betting just under 3% per play. That is a bit high. If you happen to go on a bad run, you could quickly cripple your bankroll with that percentage. The norm in this business is between 1-2% per wager. Very experience bettors may go higher once in awhile on a specific play. Keep in mind, obviously one of the reasons your bankroll grew 7K is because you are betting nearly 3% per play, so if you adjust downword, your going to have to adjust mentally to the change. Your bankroll growth will be slower. But as I have said to skinsfan21, this business is a marathon and not a sprint and building your bankroll takes time, but trust me when I tell you, that you can go from a $10 bettor to a $1000 bettor, just allowing time to let your bankroll grow as the percentage stays the same but the wager becomes larger because the bankroll is larger. Hope this helps you. Should you have any more questions, don't hesitate to ask and most of all continued success.

Is it usually smarter to just bet straight up on games, or do some parlays with a heavily favored team? Or my question is do people actually make money on doing parlays? thanks.

It is better to bet straight up on games then playing parlays. It is tough enough to get a positive win percentage game by game let alone a parlay. Although there may be unique cases of some players doing well, the bookmakers drool over players that try to make money playing parlays. My advice is to stay away from playing parlays and focus on straight wagering. Best of luck to you.

I was wondering what you did in order bet games with higher values on each game. What about parlays? I want to know your exact thoughts on parlays and how you size up each bet and make sure it is valuable. I have asked this before and I feel that betting each play at 1 size is a bit unprofitable. betting sizes and parlays are exactly what i need to know. how do professionals decide how much and when to parlay?

First let me say that it is nearly impossible for me to teach you what I have learned over the last 38 years in this business so let me guide you in a direction where you can gain more knowledge. As for varying the size of a wager, the criteria I use all depends on which sport, i.e. football, basketball, baseball, etc. The criteria is different for each. As for parlays, you can find out how I feel about them in Post #349 of this thread. Now, having said that, I would like to give you a link to the largest gamblers bookstore anywhere. I have been to this store many times in my life and it has everything you can possibly imagine about sports betting as well as all gaming. I also am going to give you the title of a book written by one of the most well known professional gamblers in the game. I suggest you start from there.

Hello. I've just signed up and I've got a couple questions. I haven't done the online gambling thing in a long time, I've had a trusted local for years, but he's out of business so I need to go elsewhere. My last online gambling venture was long before the UIGEA passed.

Is it still OK to provide basic information the books like address, phone number, stuff like that? I would think it probably is but just wanted to make sure.

Are WU deposits still the best way to go? Thats what I used back in the day. I've heard some of the WU agents give you a hard time about wiring money to the people the books use to receive the money, suspecting its for gaming. I of course know not to tell them what it's for but I heard they ask a bunch of questions.

I'm thinking 5Dimes for my book, I looked at BetJamaica but I like to play some European soccer and it didn't look like BetJamaica offered much of anything for soccer.

5Dimes is a recommended book here and I've read a lot of good things about payouts, pricing, and offering lots of different bets, so I think they're a good choice.

Any help anyone can offer is greatly appreciated. Pretty basic questions I'm sure but I'd rather ask first and know for sure. Hopefully I'll be able to repay the favor with some winners after I get going!
