Quick question willie. I was looking at VBRO and there are some great propertie with in 500 meters from the beach....which area do you recommend for family vacation...around the bird sanctuary or more up in the middle/upper side of palm beach? I know the distance is not that much between but which is more convenient in terms of walking around in the area to get to things like stores etc.

haven't been there yet

If you like to relax, that's the place.

Not as built up as Aruba plus it's a coral reef Island , thus allowing you to walk and walk and the water doesn't go past you knees, unless you are way out.
They will sit your beach chair in the water and serve you drinks :)

Take a day trip down to Baby Beach on the south end. One night, take a cooler full of beers and a couple of joints and drive up to the California Dunes and hike out to the beach there. An amazing place. As for restaurants, my favorite is Faro Blanco. Italian food at a converted lighthouse. For a taste of local cuisine try Kamini's Kitchen. You should also check out Arikok Park. Very cool. If you happen to wind surf, there are several spots that our world class. A very nice golf course on the north end but the strong winds at certain times of the year, makes it close to unplayable.

Oh and if you want a very special, albiet pricey dinner place, try L'Escale. It's right on the water.

Thanks for all the great advise guys.

Flight is booked. Arriving in aruba nov 29th, leaving dec 6th.

1 thing changed....no mother in law anymore...just wife and 2 young kids. this takes out night life out of the picture and as well as nice romantic dinners. going to be all family stuff with kids. also have 4 by 4 booked for the full trip.

does the recommendation for places to stay change now? Is it better to to stay somewhere quiter or away from palm beach and drive up to everywhere? also how is the parking? is it safe to park the vehicle and go to the beach for the whole day? don't want to deal with break in to the car or getting car stolen! i am also planning to spend one full day in the water by renting a small boat, let me know if this is possible or a good idea.

Pretty easy. Bought once from a bartender and once from a guy who worked for the hotel where I was saying. Downtown near the casinos, guys will be offering.

it's all doable, and don't worry about crime either, it's just a very safe place

I would still stay near palm beach, for the water and the restaurants and the shopping and the activity

I never rented a private boat, but I have booked charters. I suggest you make that reservation from home too. There is a ton of boating activity
