This Friday’s game between the Tigers and Hogs will be for all the marbles…..for one team at least. Let’s begin with results on the field. The advantage is obviously LSU’s….the Hogs have ONE and only one impressive win all season…..at Texas. Sure they are on a four-game winning streak, but have you looked at those teams they beat? The teams that Arkansas has beaten have a combined record of 7 and 27…..and it took overtime to beat one of those. Now, here’s a quick statistical comparison of the two teams:
Common opponents: (Bama, Auburn, Gators, Ole Mrs., Cocks, MSU)
Arky is 3-3, outsroing opponents 152-105
LSU is 5-1, outscoring opponents 156-56
Advantage: LSU
LSU scoring Offense:
Total points: 365
Arky scoring offense:
Total points: 385 (of which, 50 were scored in overtime)
Advantage: Arkansas
Rushing offense:
LSU 172 yds/Game
Arky 240 yds/Game
Advantage: Pigs
Passing Offense:
LSU: 2767 yds (252 yds/game) 64% completion 12 Int's 25 TD's
Ark: 2277 yds 56% completion 7 Int's 18 TD's
Jones: 59% completion. 1742 yds 16 td's 5 Int's
Mauck is still #1 rated passer in SEC. ….don’t believe me, then look it up.
Advantage: LSU
Just a note on their WR's:
George Wilson 47 catches 875 yds (18.6 avg) 6 td's
Richard Smith 27 catches 544 yds (20.1 avg) 7 td's
Jason Peters 19 catches 201 yds (10.6 avg) 4 td's
That’s impressive, but LSU has Clayton, Henderson, Green.….
Advantage: LSU
Total Points allowed:
LSU 103
Arky 236
Advantage: LSU
Intangibles:
Nick Saban vs Houston Nutt
Tiger Stadium and home crowd
SEC championship in LSU's sights (BCS bowl, possible national championship)
Indy Bowl in Arky's sights (regardless of outcome)
And let’s not forget….bigtime revenge for the Tigers!
Advantage: LSU
LSU must run to set up the pass. And when I say that I mean run between the tackles so our O-Line can get their game rolling and Mauck can get a feel for the game. He has looked his best when we began games on the ground and provided good protection. These types of gameplans are simple in their construction, but enable Mauck’s confidence to build. As fortune would have it, the short week has actually helped this theory along because a simple game plan is all that time would allow. Therefore, look for the Tigers to run between the tackles to set up the pass...both short and long passes.
Practice has been good, and the team is very focused.....VERY FOCUSED.....everything they have done up to this point comes down to Friday.
The Tigers are going to play a good offensive game..... BUT THE DEFENSE IS ROCK SOLID! I think the game will be determined in the trenches. Pigs O-line vs Tigers D-line. Their strength vs our strength. I think our strength is stronger than their strength.
Appears to me this game is the Tiger's to take.
I believe that Arkansas is a good football team, but my prediction is
LSU 31-10
