Trying to get some discussion started on this game. I like Arkansas plus the points. But, I'm a hog fan and probably biased.
LSU is very tough and has talent everywhere. They haven't allowed a hundred yard rusher in a while. That's Arkansas bread and butter. Pound it until they tire, then mix in a play-action pass. LSU has been successful stopping the run, but I don't think they've seen an offensive line like the one they'll see Friday.

This Friday’s game between the Tigers and Hogs will be for all the marbles…..for one team at least. Let’s begin with results on the field. The advantage is obviously LSU’s….the Hogs have ONE and only one impressive win all season…..at Texas. Sure they are on a four-game winning streak, but have you looked at those teams they beat? The teams that Arkansas has beaten have a combined record of 7 and 27…..and it took overtime to beat one of those. Now, here’s a quick statistical comparison of the two teams:

Common opponents: (Bama, Auburn, Gators, Ole Mrs., Cocks, MSU)
Arky is 3-3, outsroing opponents 152-105
LSU is 5-1, outscoring opponents 156-56
Advantage: LSU

LSU scoring Offense:
Total points: 365
Arky scoring offense:
Total points: 385 (of which, 50 were scored in overtime)
Advantage: Arkansas

Rushing offense:
LSU 172 yds/Game
Arky 240 yds/Game
Advantage: Pigs

Passing Offense:
LSU: 2767 yds (252 yds/game) 64% completion 12 Int's 25 TD's
Ark: 2277 yds 56% completion 7 Int's 18 TD's
Jones: 59% completion. 1742 yds 16 td's 5 Int's
Mauck is still #1 rated passer in SEC. ….don’t believe me, then look it up.
Advantage: LSU

Just a note on their WR's:
George Wilson 47 catches 875 yds (18.6 avg) 6 td's
Richard Smith 27 catches 544 yds (20.1 avg) 7 td's
Jason Peters 19 catches 201 yds (10.6 avg) 4 td's
That’s impressive, but LSU has Clayton, Henderson, Green.….
Advantage: LSU

Total Points allowed:
LSU 103
Arky 236
Advantage: LSU

Intangibles:
Nick Saban vs Houston Nutt
Tiger Stadium and home crowd
SEC championship in LSU's sights (BCS bowl, possible national championship)
Indy Bowl in Arky's sights (regardless of outcome)
And let’s not forget….bigtime revenge for the Tigers!
Advantage: LSU

LSU must run to set up the pass. And when I say that I mean run between the tackles so our O-Line can get their game rolling and Mauck can get a feel for the game. He has looked his best when we began games on the ground and provided good protection. These types of gameplans are simple in their construction, but enable Mauck’s confidence to build. As fortune would have it, the short week has actually helped this theory along because a simple game plan is all that time would allow. Therefore, look for the Tigers to run between the tackles to set up the pass...both short and long passes.

Practice has been good, and the team is very focused.....VERY FOCUSED.....everything they have done up to this point comes down to Friday.
The Tigers are going to play a good offensive game..... BUT THE DEFENSE IS ROCK SOLID! I think the game will be determined in the trenches. Pigs O-line vs Tigers D-line. Their strength vs our strength. I think our strength is stronger than their strength.
Appears to me this game is the Tiger's to take.

I believe that Arkansas is a good football team, but my prediction is

LSU 31-10

LSUpete- Good write up and analysis as usual. I really like this LSU defense. but their QB makes me nervous. He's kind of slow and I've noticed he focuses in on one receiver and that's it. If the receiver is open, he'll usually get it there but if the guy is covered he throws it anyway. That's why they almost got beat at MIssissippi. Too many points to lay with a shaky QB.

Dan I'm with you Arkansas will beat this team in the trenches and hang around. stats shmats. What were Old miss's stats. They should have beaten LSU even though they did where it counts. Turnovers is the key to this game... And who knows about that......

Hey Bob,

He is ANYTHING but "shaky". He has twice as many TD's as INT's, and that's the mark of a good QB. The INT at Ole Miss this weekend was the first pass of the game and the receiver was open.....it was just a terrible pass. As I said, when the Tigers start out with a committment to running the ball they develop a tempo and produce. I agree, it sounds like a lot of points, but consider this...

LSU has averaged 34 points in each of the last four home games against Arkansas...and won (and covered) all four of them.

Pete,
You're like a crouching tiger, aren't you. You wanted me to start that LSU/Ark thread so you could pounce on me with your stats. Stats smats...your boys are going down quicker than a 2 bit whore at an insurance covention. Check out the conference offensive leaders -- rushing, receiving, etc. What players are consistently in the top 5?
You're scared. I can smell it!
Try to enjoy your Turkey w/out worrying about getting knocked out of the championship race.

Here's a stat for you Pig-man.....

Your guys give up 140 yards per game and 4 yards per carry. Plus, you've had personnel problems at linebacker much of the year. LSU should be ahead on down & distance all day, enabling the short passing game and the tight end to be big factors...

Your pussycats are in for a rude awakening. You say Ark. has only one quality win, but you forget that the only reason Auburn beat us is b/c Larry Leatherwood called back a touchdown run on a shitty holding call. Florida won only after a call of a blow to the head of Leak when the hit was clearly a glancing blow to the shoulder pads.
Believe it or not, we will run on you. We're going to hit your boys in the mouth then hit them again. Arkansas football style.
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO PIG SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

disclaimer...LSU is tough...very tough, and I will be here Monday to eat crow if we lose.
Happy Thanksgiving Pete. Wish I could be in Baton Rouge on Friday.

Dan,

Your defensive line avaerages 257 lbs per man...so they have subscribed to small but quick philosophy. However, they have only 13 sacks TOTAL all year...UH OH. LSU is gonna run all day, then throw all night!

Happy Turkey Day Buddy!! I'll give you a holler the next time I'm in Ark.

Arkansas straight up. They will put more pressure on Matt than Ole Miss did. He will fold like a cheap tent. Arkansas is healthy for the first time in quite a while. They will get some movement outside of the pocket due to QB Jones' ability to scramble and make plays. Arkansas will totalyy shut down what running game the Tigers have and beat them in Baton Rouge. Arkansas 20-13

LSU stands behind some bullshit stats against La monroe and yours sisters technical school. All the stats in the world diddn't matter against ole miss, they won't matter here either even thou Arkansas will out rush the pussycats. I actually hoepe LSU does not get exposed here because it will be real fun playing against them when they go out of conf on the neutral/road. Something they never do against good teams outside the sec.
