Not to Hijack the thread but what was the difference between Seabiscut, Man O War and Secretariat? ? ?

And if all 3 were in the same race, which horse wins? ? ?

FWIW - Seabiscuit had the famous Match Race at Pimlico in 1938 against the undefeated War Admiral.

One of the reasons Secretariat was such a great horse was that physically, he had one of the largest hearts ever seen in a horse. His heart was freakish. I am confident in making this statement. Since 1972 when he was a 2 year old and 1973 when he won the Triple Crown, there has not been a horse run since that has even been close to his ability.

It is very difficult to compare Man O'War, Citation or Seabiscuit who raced before him. Some may have heard of a horse named Pharlap (Also had a movie worth seeing) who some believe may have been the greatest of all time. But much like all athletic sports, just can't compare periods that easily IMHO

Yep! Just hope they are able to add this kind of detail in the film. Remember Sham? He was the won finishing second behind Secretariat in both the Kentucky Derby and The Preakness and actually broke the track record as well in the Derby finishing a little over 2 lengths behind the Champ. The the trainer decided to go head to head with Secretariat in the Belmont setting ridiculous fractions. Sham eventually spit the bit, but Secretariat went on to run that 31 length win in still the world record of 2:24+ for the mile and a half. Unreal! (<)<

why oh why do they have to fuck with the facts that are proven to be known. That just ruins the story. The story itself does not need help. Its a great story.

I hate it when they do this shit. They couldn't film at Belmont? The biggest achievement of that horse and they filmed at Keenland. Not even close to looking like Belmont. Geez.

In the stretch, Secretariat opened a 1/16 mile lead on the rest of the field. At the finish, he won by 31 lengths (breaking the margin-of-victory record set by Triple Crown winner Count Fleet, who won by 25 lengths) and ran the fastest 1½ miles on dirt in history, 2:24 flat, which broke the stakes record by more than 2 seconds. This works out to a speed of 37.5 mph for his entire performance. Secretariat's world record still stands, and in fact, no other horse has ever broken 2:25 for 1½ miles on dirt. If the Beyer Speed Figure calculation had been developed during that time, Andrew Beyer calculated that Secretariat would have earned a figure of 139, the highest figure he has ever assigned. [3] Many bettors holding 5,617 winning parimutuel tickets on Secretariat never redeemed them, presumably keeping them as souvenirs (and because they paid only $2.20 on a $2 bet).
