dante, i made a post about 3 weeks ago , as my first post ever telling all readers to get on them at olympic at 30 to 1. there was great value imo at that number, but about 2 weeks ago they dropped it to 15 to 1 . That is currently the best price around still though as most shops have between 7 and 11 to 1.

Also for the two previous posters , it does not have to happen to make money , if you can get them at a high enough price. its all about getting proper value when betting futures. if every shop has a team at 10 to 1 , and you can get them at 25 to 1 its a no brainer, regardless if some think they have no chance.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Saint Joseph's had an easy time extending its school-record winning streak to 20 games Saturday, routing La Salle 89-63 behind 22 points from Delonte West and 20 from Jameer Nelson.

The third-ranked Hawks (20-0, 9-0 Atlantic 10) and No. 2 Stanford (19-0) started the day as the only unbeaten teams in Division I. Stanford played No. 12 Arizona later Saturday.
Saint Joseph's has seven regular-season games left, all against A-10 opponents, and only three more games against teams with winning records. The Hawks host Dayton (18-3, 8-0) on Wednesday, with two more games left against Rhode Island.

The Hawks had been tested in each of their last two games against two of the Philadelphia area's Division I schools, beating Temple by 12 and Villanova by seven.

La Salle (8-13, 3-5) kept this one close for a while, playing some its best basketball of the year in the first 13 minutes. Steven Smith scored 11 of La Salle's first 19 points - including a four-point play - to keep the score tied at 19-all.

The Explorers couldn't keep pace after that.

Pat Carroll sank a 3-pointer from the left baseline, starting a 10-2 run and giving the Hawks the lead for good. Carroll also converted a four-point play with 2.5 seconds left for a 46-32 halftime lead.

West and Nelson continued to play like the best backcourt in the nation, breaking down the defense by attacking the basket off the dribble. They combined to make 15 of 23 shots from the floor with 10 assists and only three turnovers. West also scored his 1,000th career point, becoming the 42nd Hawk to reach that mark.

It was the seventh time this year Nelson and West each scored 20 points in the same game.

Nelson hit a couple of 3-pointers as the Hawks opened the second half on a 23-7 run to put the game away.

Smith led the Explorers with 24 points and Jermaine Thomas had 15.

In front of a raucous and sold-out Palestra crowd, the Explorers seemed inspired early, swapping the lead through most of the first 10 minutes. Mike Cleaves hit a 19-footer for a 19-17 lead with 8:31 left, but the Explorers never led again.

La Salle's student section quieted early. Saint Joe's finished with the now familiar chant of "Un-de-feat-ed!"

No Division I team has finished undefeated since Indiana went 32-0 in 1975-76. The closest anyone's come since was UNLV in 1990-91, which finished the regular season unbeaten before losing to Duke in the national semifinal.

Put it on UCONN (4-1) & DUKE (3-1) and then collect your money at the end of the season. It's never that easy, but I don't see another team winning it this year...

betting futures at 3 and 4 to 1 respectively is worse than a bad idea imho. bet teams that are not in the public eye that have value. those odds are ridiculous on those teams regardless whether they win or lose. you will go broke doing it.

This is about the "dumbest statement" I've ever read/heard involving gambling: "it does not have to happen to make money , if you can get them at a high enough price."

You have to win the bet to make money; at least on the planet earth.

I think what he meant is that if you get them at high enough odds & they go far enough...you can then hedge?

or at least I assume that is what he meant...

WHAT??????????????????

For you to make money on that bet St. Joes has to win the tourney. St. Joes is not going to win the tourney so you arent going to make money therefore you LOSE the bet.

Mr. Doe, or whoever you really are let me explain how this game works. If I pick a team at 2-1 now and it wins the tourney in 2 months I WIN money. The team you picked at 30-1 2 weeks ago doesnt even make it to the Elite 8 LOSES and guess what you lose money. In this game called gambling the object is to WIN WIN WIN. I dont know about you but thats what I want to do.

Its like the guy who goes to the track and picks a 6-5 shot to win. Everyone yells at him the horse is 6-5 I want a 10-1 shot so I can make some money. Boys and girls you arent going to make money when the 10-1 shot finishes up the track and the guy who played the winner at 6-5 collects. Its all about collecting, regardless of the price.

Anyway, I like to nominate that statement by John Doe as the STUPIDEST STATEMENT EVER ON THIS BOARD. God knows we have had some really dumb statements, but this one takes the cake!!!

Sammy,

Why is it so dumb? If you put up a dime on a good team at 20-1 or 25-1, and they go at least part way into the tournement, you dont think you could hedge out even 3 to 5 dimes on them???????????

Awefully lot of hedging to do; to cover your ass as big as the field is; even in the round of 8; let's say. That's why I got a lawn man to do my hedging. LOL Suppose if ya got to final 4 it might be feasable. Still that isn't what he meant at all.

perhaps what he meant is that if you are continuously looking for exceptional value at 20-1 or greater you woudnt have to hit each one to make money...only 2 out of every 20 bets I guess

kind of like middiling...if you can hit one out of every 15 where you hit both sides you are doing well...

for example earlier this year when the philly Flyers were 16-1 at 365 I thought it was a great bet...mathimaically I thought the odds should be about 9-1 & I hesitated...low & behold the odds were changed shortly after...

needless to say...they are not the favorites to win...probably only 3rd or 4th (perhaps worse) of all tems...however those odds presented good value as I figure they will be at least one of the last 8 teams standing if not 4.

I'm rooting for Gonzaga and St Joes since I have 100/1 on both of them. There are a dozen teams that could win it this year since nobody is dominating

there are some real idiots on this board i have just found out,,,, if you dont think that there is money to be made on saint joes at 30 to 1 regardless if they win or not you are a complete utter idiot. they are going to be a number one seed for christs sake. have yall ever heard of hedging? And yes for the idiots in this thread you CAN make alot of money on futures even when the team does not win it all. Sammy i forgot more about gambling while writing this post than you will ever know in your entire life. And also betting 3 and 4 to 1 futures IS suicide whether you know it or not. please if you dont know what you are talking about,,,,, DONT TALK.
