c'mon patsfan, the players don't initiate trades. Two parties have to agree

and KG didn't want to leave MN, did he? says something about loyalty and character IMO

the C's gave up players AND 1st round draft picks in those trades. They gave up something, and something of value.

the Heat did neither

Yeah I said that, I am agreeing with you that players don't initiate trades.

So if your GM can't get McHale, Parrish for Joe Barry Carroll or Pippen for Olden Polynice or etc etc long list of hilarious trades in NBA history (back in the 80s teams didn't even lottery protect picks so you had situations like Lakers having the #3 pick or whatever when they already had Kareem/Magic) then you just stay on a lame team and take it? LeBron (or any player like you said) can't make trades or draft so if they are on a team not doing a good job of this they can only do 2 things (1 is leave, the other is demand a trade)

KG didn't want to leave Minn but he has recently said if he knew what he knows now he would've wanted to come to the Celtics earlier in his career. You only get to be in your 20s and 1 of the best basketball players in the world once.

re: C's giving up something of value and Heat giving up neither, so are you saying free agency shouldn't be allowed or something? They had cap room to make it work and did. It's all within the rules, I know 1 aspect of team building (drafting) is more impressive than just signing guys but it is still on the up and up. Obviously places like Miami/NY/LA gonna be able to lure top NBA players in free agency than other cities, this is no different than any other industry. It's like you and whoever else is basically saying it is fundamentally wrong to sign with a good team in free agency, even if the other option is not playing for a good team.

Also this isn't directed at you willie, but the current player people juxtapose to LeBron the most is Kobe and he demanded a trade in '07 after losing in rd 1 or not making the playoffs for 3 straight years! People gonna say a lot of things about Kobe Bryant but 1 of them probably isn't going to be he lacks competitiveness. If you are getting beat by other star players on far better teams every year and DON'T want to move on I think that is more of a problem than wanting to move on. Luckily for LAL they got the Gasol ripoff and rest was history....

I didn't say free agency shouldn't be allowed, I was merely pointing out that trades have a very different result than 3 free agents shopping their services together

No doubt it is the easiest way to instantly build a top team, but it is also the only recourse the players have of being on a good team if their management can't surround them with good players.

Obviously people would prefer the Kevin Durant approach of staying with the small market team, but that is a lot easier to do when they draft Russ Westbrook, Serge Ibaka and James Harden the next 3 years.

I do think I am right about him going Miami being why people react like that though. A team with no real history, its Florida so no real hardcore fanbase...It just has the feel of 3 20 somethings deciding who has the best mansion to throw a party at.

If he goes Knicks I think people would say oh he wants to turn around the Knicks! and praise him for it.

I know if it was me there is no way I am staying in Cleveland though for a bunch of reasons.

Lebron gets two more titles (this year and next) and then we can consider it to be close.. but honestly MJ was an extreme and lebron might be comparable but it was a different time.. there is plenty of super athletic guys right now, but yes lebron is hands down the best currently.

suggestion is that we talk once the career is over and then a real comparison can be made :)

I think three HOF players on a team makes that particular team stacked. If you don't think so, I'd love to know why not?

you're going to have to tell me what those other two HOF players did without MJ

I would argue he put them there

Rodman won 2 rings with the Pistons before going to Chicago
Pippen on an undermanned team with Pete Myers replacing Jordan took them to rd 2 leading them in every major statistical category the next year, as well as took Portland to within 1 game of being favored in the NBA finals when he was 34 with a bad back with Portland.

I mean they're HOFers and playing next to the best scorer ever was a perfect fit for all 3 of them. As good as MJ was, the Bulls probably the best defensive team of all time which is pretty amazing since they didn't have a dominant defensive big.

I'm not taking anything from MJ but besides maybe the '93 Suns I don't think any of the teams the Bulls beat in the finals had better players than them 2-12

Re: Celts and their big 3 and Heat and theirs via trades/FA...If your GM/organization can put you with 2 other all stars it is ok, but if you take it upon yourself to do that yourself it is not ok? I just don't understand that logic relating to LeBron.

Also their coach was Phil Jackson who has had a lot of success, I know that doesn't count as team talent but I'd consider a player having him as their coach for their prime a fortunate occurence.

In my opinion theres only 2 reasons a person would think lebron is greater than MJ:

1. They are too young to have seen Michaels career
2. Time tends to make people forget.

If both of these guys were playing during the same period of time it would be so clearly obvious that Jordan is the superior player that those who claimed otherwise would be a laughing stock.

So Lebron puts a lot of assists and rebounds in the stat column....so did magic but he wasnt greater than Michael.

I actually like lebron now (cant stand wade and it used to be vice versa) but its just crazy to think he is better than THE greatest ever.

No idea what makes you believe this at all.

And I'm surely old enough to have watched MJ since the get go.

I have no idea why you don't agree with this seeing how you are old enough to watch MJ...no contest.
