no they dont get the $2 because overhead
goes go up like viking said and i f the driver is usually using his own car and getting minimum wage and on part time schedule, you really need to tip the poor guy throw him a fin dont be a cheapo

What? What is the overhead piece? You pay for the pizza and that is the cost. You shouldn't be paying an additional price for nothing.

this is going to to sound nerdy but I used to deliver chinese food. It was the best part time job I ever had. I got paid 10$ an hour cash under the table....PLUS tips from deliveries and all the deliveries where in rich neighborhoods and never got tipped lower than 3 dollars a delivery. friday nights made minimum 150$ cash EASY.

Two houses and a BMW delivering pizzas? Not a chance; even at $20/hr it wouldn't be near enough.

100% fact. Two reasons why:

1. He worked more than 40 hours per week.
2. Even though he delivered pizzas, he was on a manager's salary. So instead of making min. wage + tips, he made about $11-$12 base plus tips.

One of my son's delivers pizza's. He makes good money but it is in a dangerous area and i have asked him to stop many many times but we are not on the best of terms. I have offered to help out but he declines, all over a divorce over 25 years ago. That is another story. He has been asked many times to run and open stores for the ownrers but declines. he likes being out and likes to bs with the people. He makes the minumun but all his tips. It is hell on a car. he said he makes over 100 on a good nite and lives near a college where he delivers 6 or 7 at a time.. Ohter nites he is lucky to make 30 bucks. He fell over a wire the other nite and broke his fibula so his delivering may be over with. he is in the hospital and has to have two operations

Did pizza delivery in Chicago Sububs and a college campus...

10 deliveries an hour was very possible on the college campus ( i would do 10 at a time to some dorms...).... A place I worked at had 20 drivers on one shift....

The suburbs was a differant story but I had a record of 123 in an 8 hour shift in the burbs...

NOT A BAD GIG for a 18 - 22 year old back in the day

you get paid 3 ways:
TIPS
HOURLY
and MILAGE

all 3 adds up....
getting CASH is always nice as well....

10 deliveries per hour seems very unlikely

Right on

Getting a half dozen an hour for two to three hours during peak time was a very busy night back in the four years (winter months in Texas) I did it in late 80s

I have to admit that I am embarrassed to write this.

I was working two jobs and one was commission based (yeah you guessed it) started selling nothing and making very little.

Took on a pizza delivery thing as a THIRD job.

It's just awful. I make almost nothing for an hourly wage ($3 an hour) plus tips (if people have any money at all) The delivery charge (I get a $1.25 per order) although I think they charge the customer $1.75

It's all under the the table of course. I worked three hours Friday night, eleven hours Saturday and ten hours on Sunday. $167 for 24 hours = $7 an hour. The place hardly does any business and in those 24 hours of work I had about 15 deliveries.

I wish I could just quit the job (normally I just Saturday and Sunday all day) but I don't were to make up the $140 I would lose even though I know it is sub minimum wage (and you use your gasoline on top of it all)

I'm too cheap to pay the delivery fee and tips. I'm one of the few who really likes Domino's and we have one 2 miles from my house, so I just order
over the web and go pick it up.

I used to deliver beer on Miami University (OH) campus. The store was in the middle of town and the town was small, so nothing was more than 2 miles apart. Literally sometimes I would have 5 deliveries at once at one dorm. I probably ran 15 an hour.

We got to keep the $1 delivery fee plus average tip was over $5 (EVERYONE is happy to see the beer man). I worked 4 hour shifts and regularly made over $200. Insane.

I can't stand the chain pizza places and this type of stuff. Local pizza place here has a half price coupon online. Large specialty is like $7. Large cheese for less than $5. Large chains two pizzas is $20 after all the bullshit. Plus it tastes horrible. My conversation with the chain places usually go something like this: "I have a coupon for a large 3 topping for $8.99. I also need a large cheese for the kids." "That'll be $23.14." "Actually, nevermind, I'll go pick up at (the other place." Click.
