I need a bar, bout 10ft long. I was at a bar once and seen what I think was Epoxy under a sheet of either plexi-glass or glass with old coins under it.

Well, I want a bar to have vintage illegal gambling chips imbeaded in the epoxi, or poly eurthane(sp). would like maple wood too.

I have called a few guys and got an estimate from 4-8K. Does this sound right?
Any other finish question 's you may have i suggest that you visit a specialty store like a sherwin williams that will help you answer some of your wuestions and can guide you what produst's that will best suit your need's. If you want you can call me direct, get my # from wil.

Betedge and Korn- I will defer to you guys and your knowledge, but all I am saying is I built an extension to my bar and did not find it hard. I did have help from a pretty handy guy.....
aahhhh, the 'ol "i had help" bit. It is not as easy as one might think, nor as hard as another might think. There is alot you can do with what he is talking about. Does it have lite's? Footrail? shelves? built in collers? I could go on and on, but it just has to be to his liking is all i am trying to say. Typically the labor will be rt around what the material will cost. Question is, how much is your time worth to you? And if you mess it up and then want someone to come in and fix it it is going to cost you extra.

I have o disagree with you on this. 1. If he built by himself and the 2grand was just for labor and not material included, his price would be excellent. Depending on the materials, coins not included, the material could range from 800.00 to 1,800.00.u.s.d. Polyuethane is not a shit product at all if applied properly. It would just take longer to apply instead of an epoxy, doing 25 coat's. Didn't you say that you are a rough carpenter anyway's?:think2:

No, I am a woodworker/cabinetmaker and lead finisher for an architectural cabinet shop and do work on the side. He could certainly do it for 2K if he were doing it buy himself. I thought the guy was talking about hiring it out for that price. As far as poly, carpenters are all the same in their knowledge of finishes and that will probably never change. Their have been major advances in European finishes in the last decade, rendering poly a obsolete product in the woodworking industry for many reasons. One being durability.

Most of the people at Sherwin Williams are jackasses who have no clue... Sherwin Williams will gladly sell you an over priced product for which you could get at Homedepot for much less.. Sherwin has half way decent products, but they are not the way to go for advice on expensive finishes. I come here for that advice :smoker2:

BTW, thanks for your help Korn

No prob. Sherwin Williams people really are clueless but their post cat CV is a solid product. There are better available but all in all a good product. Problem is they might not now WTF you are talking about and have no idea about catalyzing it...which catalyst, how much, pot life, etc.
