I am very proud of you. It was just a few years ago that you would have been arguing that the Earth was only several thousand years old. Can I ask what you read that made you change your mind? Also, it seems you believe in the Big Bang. How do you reconcile that with your disbelief in evolution?

These are serious questions meant for discussion, not to start a flame war.

Actually Big Bang Theory has a lot more in common with the Biblical story of
creation that does the historical view of an infinite universe that scientists
held for centuries.

I'm not sure what disbelief in universal common descent has to do with
believing in big bang cosmology?

K

What does the biblical story of creation have to do with the big bang? God spoke and "bang" it was? I am a bit confused..

By using the balloon model we ought to be able to assume that if you travelled in one direction eventually you would wind up where you started - provided you were moving faster than the universe is expanding. My question is what matter is the universe expanding into? It ought to have some space to fill right? What is that space? Also if a particle of infinite density exploded to start this whole thing then shouldn't the universe have infinite mass and energy? Why then do people believe the universe expansion is slowing down?

Was there time or motion before the universe existed? Or has it always existed since eternity past?

How many universes are there?

Thermodynamics says that heat always flows to cold, so if the universe had been around forever, all temperature would be uniform. Since virtually all scientists believe the universe had a beginning, how does it make sense that nothingness exploded and matter created itself out of nothing. It doesn't make sense. God created the world supernaturally. How did God exist throughout eternity with no beginning? I don't know but he's supernatural and not bound by the laws of this dimension.

Actually I think we would be frozen if it had been around forever - check me on that though. How come people use "god" as a way to explain the unexplainable? What happens when this question is answered about the universes origins?

Matter can't be created or destroyed, yet matter had a beginning. Good luck trying to explain that without a supernatural God. The creation is beautiful, don't try to explain away the obvious truth.

Stop confusing can't explain with won't explain. It's pretty ignorant to think we won't be able to explain it one day. Do you think that people from 2000 years ago would be able to understand the physics behind a thermo-nuclear explosion? I am pretty sure if some goat herder on a hill saw this display of power he would say it was god. No difference between this and you sitting on the couch in your underwear eating Cheetos trying to explain the origins of the universe.

there will never ever be time travel....if so there would have been someone that has come back to our time and not hidden their origins.

the only way to kill that theory is that they also have those MIB memory erasers in the future and if they are found out they erase our memory.

There might be time travel, but we don't know about it yet. Assuming that there are aliens coming from other galaxies, they might use time travel to get to earth!

And speaking of Cheetos. Guy looks down and see's his dick is turning orange. Goes to the doctor. Doctor take one look at his dick and asks him if he's been under any stress lately. Guy says he got fired from his job! Doctor says that must be the problem. Guys says he hated that job and was going to quit within one week. Doctor asks him how his marriage is going. Guy says he's getting divorced. Doctor say that must be the problem. Guy says, I hated that bitch from the day I married her and was going to divorce her anyway! Doctor shakes his head and says, what do you do after work. Guys says, I lay on the couch watching porn.....and eat Cheetos!

+1 here. Nothing against Illini and the other views expressed. But humans can not get their arms around these concepts today. Will that be the case in 10k years? Maybe yes, maybe no, I dunno. I just know never say never with respect to finding an explanation.

I'm pretty sure cevemen didn't envision Bic lighters...

Stop confusing atheism with intellectual superiority.

Why do half of the brightest minds in science and mathematics choose not to identify with a religion at all? On top of that, significantly less than that 50% claim to be fundamentalists...something like 10%...that includes other religions besides Christianity as well.

Why does practically everyone in a poor, rural, uneducated area identify themselves as being some sort of fundamentalist with practically no-one claiming atheism?

They don't match up perfectly, but there is definitely a link between people with above average intelligence and atheism.

What you see as being perfect and beautiful others see as being silly. I am glad you have found all the answers, but I am more glad that there are people out there not like you who aren't afraid to ask and seek the answers to difficult questions.

Post of thread, it can be closed now. Organized religion the biggest scam ever perpetrated upon mankind by himself.

For some, it's because they don't want the moral responsibility that comes with the fact that there is a God. For others, they keep their beliefs private because the people at the top of "science" have it in their dogma that there is no God, and anyone that mentions intelligent design gets blackballed in their profession. They cling to 1800's evolutionary explanation, even after we've discovered that there is intelligent DNA coding in every cell of the human body.

As far as you claiming I haven't thought about difficult questions and sought truth, well I guess that's more proof of the arrogance of atheists......if you don't agree with them, you're an idiot that hasn't thought about life's difficult questions. It's just like the leftist "we love everyone as long as you agree with us on everything, including gay marriage."

"The fool says in his heart that there is no God." Is that arrogant enough for you?

So in 10,000 years, are the laws of science going to change? If matter can't be created nor destroyed, then what..........did the law just get suspended for a brief moment when nothingness exploded for no reason and matter created itself? Is man going to see through a telescope that there is a natural reason why the earth moves throughout space like a self propelled airplane on the same journey every year around a random star? That it stays on course with no pilot and zero margin of error, year after year after year? And it's because of evolution?

Ummmmm......okay.

The only difficult questions you ask yourself pertain to which super size combo you are going to scarf down for supper. Please do us all a favor if you manage to get laid - wear protection. I would hate to see a child subjected to the same brainwashing you have been through.

So theists are brain-washed, but atheists are enlightened?

Al, you're better than that.

I'm sorry some people in the church must have hurt you. But seriously, don't be an arrogant dick.
