Annette Obrestad, known as Annette_15 on the online poker felts, came out on top of more than 200 players to win Ultimate Bet’s second edition of the $100,000 Guaranteed tourney.
This tourney is part of the new tourneys added to Ultimate Bet’s schedule after the launch of the CEREUS network. Ultimate Bet’s new $500,000 Guaranteed Weekends include the $100K Sunday tournament won by Annette_15 along with an identical one on Saturdays, two $50,000 Guaranteed Sniper Tournaments (one each on Saturday and Sunday) and the well known UB $200,000 Texas Hold’em on Sundays.
Only on its second week, the $100,000 Guaranteed tournament has a $500 + $30 buy-in, and it has surpassed the guarantee on both occasions. This means that last Sunday Annette Obrestad cashed for well over $31,000 after beating a field of more than 200 serious players.
20-year-old Obrestad has been setting and breaking records since her initiation in the poker world 5 years ago. A household name by now, Annette is the youngest ever champion and the first WSOPE Main Event winner as well, but her reputation as a fearsome player had been established long before last year’s WSOPE. Annette_15 first jumped into poker headlines and forums when she declared she had won a tournament with over 180 players without once looking at her hole cards. It is also common knowledge that she claims to have never deposited into an online poker site, building her millionaire bankroll from scratch by winning freeroll tournaments.
The legend of Annette has kept growing: this year’s WSOPE highlighted a heads-up match between the online wunderkind and veteran poker legend Doyle Brunson, which was won by Brunson. The young Norwegian star has become such a recognized player that she was recently invited to take part in PokerStars Premier League, an invitation-only televised league event where twelve of the world’s top poker players pay $75,000 to play against each other for a week in a series of 6-seat Single Table Tournaments. The remaining 11 players are a measure of Annette Obrestad’s impressive standing in the poker community: she was invited along with Phil Hellmuth, Tom durrrr Dwan, Tony G, Vicky Coren, Roland De Wolfe, Dave Ulliott, Andy Black, Peter Eastgate, Juha Helppi, JC Tran and Nenad Medic.
A Betfair pro, Annette Obrestad’s blog features her comments about her experience playing the Premier League:
“I won’t go into too many details about hands and stuff as I don’t want to spoil the fun for anyone, but I’ll say this - playing with all the sick players in that line-up was an extremely helpful experience, and I’m very thankful to Betfair Poker for putting me in it. I can only pray that they liked me and will give me a chance to play against next year.”
