What you have to remember is the AFI is looking at these movies from a sports standpoint not a gambling on sports standpoint. Let it Ride is funny and excellent movie about a guy who bets on horses and most likely would be classified under the comedy genre not sports when it came to voting for these top tens.
Other movies mentioned have plenty of merit and probably in cases like The Natural just missed the top ten.
I am not sure what criteria was used to classify particular movies as sports, romantic comedy, fantasy, gangster etc. geners. I am sure Chariots of Fire (best bicture Oscar in 1982) for example should be in the top ten but somehow did not make the top ten sports movies.
