I have done a form of the Atkins diet for 4 weeks and have lost 16#, now it will be a real test for me for the next 4 weeks up until Christmas. I always love candy or sweets and have a full time baker that works for me, so this has been hard, but I have never had a day we're have put on more than 1ib. One thing I tell anyone who goes on a diet is you need to way yourself everyday, it helps you understand what your body deals with better.

Raw food works well too. Fruits ready to snack on will let you fulfill the sugar craving and along with veggies you will get lots of fibre which cleans out that colon.

Lots of water. Drink a glass before every meal. Sometimes our body confuses thirst and hunger. If you are craving a specific food then you need to drink. If everything sounds good then you need to eat.

Avoid eating out and don't forget to eat breakfast. Restaurant foods taste so good because they are high in calories.

Foods such as almonds, spinach, apples and others high in fiber help you feel full and our good snacks. Eating the actual fruit or vegetable is better than any shake or smoothie that you can buy. Those things will breakdown some nutrients and concentrate the sugars.

Start being active. A workout in the morning and later afternoon is better than one grueling workout because it keeps the metabolism up. And make sure to incorporate weightlifting with cardio. Cardio will be burn fat but not flabs. Lifting will help you burn more calories and prevent you from eing skinny-fat.

Always remember Kid, it's a lifestyle change not just a change to lose some gut. That's only the end result of your hard work to change your life.

its time to get serious, its cold outside and I want to be in better shape by the time it starts warming up again. im looking to lose around 40-50 lbs. I know the best way to go about this is diet and exercise which will begin on Friday after Thanksgiving. im going to go the atkins route and focus on cutting out carbs, sugars, and junk food.

im looking for some helpful ideas on dishes to make or items to avoid. one of my main questions is i know natural sugars like banannas and what not are ok, how about juices such as apple and orange juice as part of a healthy diet? how about those v-8 type drinks that give you fruit and vegetable servings. obviously im going to go away from things like burgers, pizza, most sandwiches, cookies, cake etc. just looking for some helpful do's and don'ts. I will be focusing alot of my food around chicken, as its one of my favorite items to eat.

Factoring everything in...your best diet plan, is..

this is no joke.

You are so right! About 3 years ago I had to start losing weight as I was officially in the obese category - although I didn't look it. I've lost close to 50 lbs. Through my health plan, I have access to a nutritionist. She has been extremely helpful in giving guidance. She makes lots of suggestions some of which I do, some of which I ignore. I still drink but nothing compared to what I used to consume. I've pretty much eliminated beer from the diet. Only the occasional single malt. Red wine is good. My advice is to cut back and/or eliminate certain things from your diet gradually. Imo you can still enjoy most foods, it's all about portion size/control. Fruits and veggies are a must. As mentioned previously almonds are good for a snack. I just pay a lot more attention to labels with respect to fats and sugars. I exercise pretty much every day. You can do it!

Try green tea daily-it is good for many many things-put a slice of lemon in it---and use tea bags! not canned tea.

Kidman - I started Weight watchers with my wife at the end of Sept. It is a points system I weighed 210 pounds I got 36 points a day, It's amazing how fast you points go. but it is working I have dropped down to 197 pds after 8 weeks that is 13 lbs. I also get 49 bonus points a week, but what I have learned is if I dont use my bonus points I usually lose 1.5 to 2 lbs

Here is the thing about alcohol a beer is 5 points a whiskey without mix is 4 points, also the booze slows down your metabolism.

The other thing I have learned is half your plate should be vegetables at L & D - Eat fruit in the AM.

you're trying to cut 40-50 and are coming from a sedentary lifestyle, so you will fail if you try going all-out from the beginning with a super strict diet and body-building type of regiment.

before failing by attempting that, simply eat from a collection of these groups for each meal. for exercise, briskly walk 5 miles 5 days per week and do some sets of push ups and sit ups daily.

proteins: chicken, turkey, fish, eggs, tofu

fats: almonds, walnuts, low fat cheese, low fat mayo, avocado, olive oil, natural peanut butter (occasional)

veggies: anything and everything

fruits: green apples, watermelon, cantaloupe, blueberries

avoid: anything with enriched flour, anything processed, any simple carb, sucrose

only shop on the perimeter at the grocery store

once you've lost your first 25 lbs by doing the above, the diet can be relaxed a bit while you start incorporating cross-fit and core building exercises.

You don't have to incorporate cross-fit Kid. Just his opinion but in my view, it seriously increases your chance for injury not to mention you can be in the same shape expending 50 percent less energy by not doing cross-fit. Again, just my opinion but in all honesty, if people are working out, it's a good thing.

nm, not worth it. i never said he shouldn't be exercising from the beginning, you obviously can't read. and don't have a clue about the evolution of cross-fit and compound core building exercises.

No need to get defensive in this guy's thread. I don't agree with cross-fit (yes, I have a clue about the evolution of cross-fit) but you do. No worries, it's just a difference of opinion. I'm glad the guy's getting active and I'd support whatever he wants to do.

Geez man, do you get that agitated when talking to a guy in everyday life and he says he doesn't fundamentally agree with cross-fit? It's just an opinion. No big deal. Guys on here just need to chill a bit.

My comment about him working out had nothing to do with your post. It was actually backing up your post in saying I'm glad he's working out in whatever he chooses to do whether it be cross-fit or whatever. Glad he's just off the couch.

It was said a coupel times already, but weight training is the best way to lose fat. Now you can't get a Big Mac combo, lift some weights and expect to lose a bunch of fat but if you are fat now, do nothing but eat less and walk a little, you won't be as happy with the results and you might become skinny fat.

I have no clue how old you are so I can't say what you should do. If you are 24 and overweight? Do P90x

If you are 40 and overweight, start walking light weights, and work your way up to running (mix in fast running then jog, rinse/repeat) and increase your weight training.

If you are pushing 60, do some pushups walk/light job and call it a career and just walk when you get time.

LOL, a lot of 40-year-olds can do P90X the same or better than a young man/woman of 24. I'm nearing 40 and it's the new 24 :).

I don't disagree at all. If a guy is asking for general questions about losing weight and has no idea AND is 40, there is no way he is ready to do P90x. I'm 38 and still do it and have gone through it probably 4 times. I'm in fantastic shape and much bigger/better than when I was 24.

But again, someone who obviously doesn't workout, no way at 40 I would recommend he do P90x. At 24, even way out of shape, I think he would be fine doing it. At 40, trying to start doing that? He would probably get hurt and/or give up anyway as it's not easy.

If he had never worked out and started doing P90 at 40, he'd probably need to sit in a hot tub for a week or so LOL.
