ALL TIME WORST BAD BEATS... LET'S HEAR YOURS

Cb Sk somewhre around 1979,1980.Monday night football.I'm in college and ain't got a pot to piss in.We have a Monday night football pool. With less than 10 seconds redskins winning and have the ball.I have the right #'s and I'm a winner.Only a couple hundred but that was big money for me at the time. They are counting out my money.I am salivating and looking for the campus coke dealer.Thiesman whom I will hate until my dying day, takes the snap and runs out of the his own end zone for a saftey.Changes the score. They snatch the money out of my hands and give it to some dweeb who doesn't even know what a football is.The worst part is ,my coke dealer wouldn't front me.

I was just talking about that game the other day I did'nt play it but the person I was talking to did.
I have so many but I remember one because I was younger and played it harder then I shoud have, I think I had it for 2 or 3 hundred and that was all the money in the world to me. it was the early 80's Valvano was coaching NC ST I think they were playing NC I had them +11 and they lost in double ot by 13. Loosing on the last play of the game is bad enough but to sit through two overtimes to loose is unbearable

i'm sure we've all done those super bowl pools - where you have 100 numbers and ya get 2 and if the final score ends on those numbers you win.

a few years back, my bro had denver "4" atlanta "0". denver is up 34-13 and atlanta scores a td with little time left.

my bro is ecstatic. when the falcons kick the pat he will be the winner of the pool. except reeves goes for 2 - and misses - making the final score denver 34-19 - and costing my bro a few hundies.

I think it was back in 1983 or thereabouts. I was at the old Churchill Downs Race and Sportsbook on the strip in Las Vegas. I had a 4-team NFL/College parlay on my two best sides on Saturday and Sunday. I think I still have the ticket somewhere. I lost every game by 1/2 point.

about 2 yrs ago ariz was playing at atl.
ariz was losing in the 9th by 1 run, nobody
on, 2 outs. the batter struck out but lopez
dropped the ball. the batter saw this and started running to 1st. lopez promtly threw the ball into right field and the runner ended up on 2nd,
later scored. ariz won in the 10th inning.

I was at that game. I think it was on a holiday or something, but i know it was a day game. I didn't have anything on it, but it was definetly a tough way to lose. My friend, who is the biggest jinx in the world, kept saying to me all during the game that everytime he watched the Braves, they lost. Anyway I recall during the top of the ninth with two outs turning to him and saying "you are not a jinx to the braves and I don't ever want to hear that crap again." Ever since that day, I have believed in jinxes.

winkyduck there were two other bad beats associated with that dan reeves two point conversion attempt in the superbowl.

1) anybody who had the point spread prop +14.5
-220 got beat out of a winner not to mention getting juiced out to boot.

2) the missed conversion also caused the half to fall 4 instead of three which was a side opportunity as there were 3's and 3.5's at the half

i have three that i don't see mentioned here and two of them apply to me only most likely but here they are.

1) anybody remember the 13 point victory in overtime by ariz st over usc in a game in which usc had gotten steamed from almost +10 down to around +5

2) patriots are playing fortyniners i have patriots +4.5 points in the first half. sfran is at the twenty going in and the score is tied. they get stopped and it is fourth down with
less than ten seconds remaining. fortyniners line up for the field goal no way sfran will fake it.
sfran doesn't fake it. instead they muff the snap, the holder rolls out and throws the ball into the end zone for a td. fortyniners win the half by seven.

3) this one is about as hard to not win as any i have ever made. dodgers and cardinals in dodger stadium when nomo was at his peak. dodgers were a big favorite like 220 to 240 and the total closed about 7un30. my bet was cardinals +2 runs even money and under 7.5 flat. (can't beat the value)
cardinals take a 1-0 lead into the top of the ninth after several controversial plays in the bottom of the eighth. cardinals get an insurance run in the top of the ninth and my 2-0 lead is looking pretty good. i figure the only way to not win is if they tie it up and then hit a grand slam. well here is what happens:

the first batter gets retired on another controversial play the manager comes out to argue and gets ejected. another player continues the argument and gets ejected as well. the fans greatly dismayed at this point begin pelting the field with baseballs in protest. (it was ball day at dodger stadium). after issuing a warning to fans they continued to throw balls out on to the field so the umpires declare a forfeit to insure the safety of the cardinal players on the field and the game ends 2-0 cardinals.

because the last two outs were not played i only get a push on both bets no action run line no action total.

it was small money but a bad beat nonetheless

I had Ole Miss/Ark teased up to 56.5 playing the UNDER two week ago. It's 17-17 with about 30 seconds left when the wife sees me pulling for a score and says "don't worry that's a lock now honey, no way could it go OVER". First, I never tell her my bets but this was a big play for me and my brother-in-law and it did look good before they tied the game up. Second she doesn't understand how college football overtime works, she thought it was like the pros. I thought to myself facetiously they'll score 100 points now. Final score 58-56 Arkansas. Needless to say I am 0-233 when anyone within 100 miles of me declares that I have a lock. Anyone know a good divorce lawyer?

Also probably not many can identify with this one unless you play poker, but playing in a Texas Hold 'Em tournament I'm down to the final table when I pick up Ace - King. The flop comes Ace - Ace - King. I have a lock, Aces full of Kings with only two cards to come. After succesfully slow-playing the hand to keep a few guys in the pot, the last two cards come deuce - decue. Of course the guy has a pair of deuces in his hand. Four deuces beat Aces full of Kings. Not only did I lose all my chips in the hand and eliminate myself, if it wasn't a tournament I would have won the "bad beat" jackpot that was over $63,000 for getting beat by 4 of a kind. I never even bothered to pick up my check for finishing 8th in the tournament I was so pissed. /infopop/emoticons/icon_mad.gif

Mine was yesterday. I'm still fuming about that Bears - Browns game. Up 14, getting 3- and with less than 40 seconds to go in the game. That has to be one of the all time worst. The sorry bastards can't even lose by just three. NO, let's really stick it in Max. I still don't believe it. That game is the reason a person shouldn't keep loaded guns around while sweating games.

Trying to remember the exact details but it went something like this.
Had NBA team (Portland I believe) +1 first half.
They were up 4 with the ball and ~20 seconds left, dribbling it out for the last shot. How do you lose?
Turn the ball over somehow.
Other team hits a 3 with like 1.7 seconds left. Still good.
Portland inbounds it by heaving it 3/4 court to the other foul line. Inbound pass is intercepted and guy literally all in one motion throws up a one-handed 3/4 court shot at the buzzer and it goes in.

Stared at the TV for like 5 minutes with my jaw on the floor.

Few years ago had Auburn minus something like 19.5, they had the ball up 14 around midfield with a minute or so left but were still running plays cause other team had time outs. Thinking someone has to bust one. I think it was Pettway busts through the line, is running ALL ALONE down the field. He's not gonna go down, he wants to score! Stand up, shouting at the TV, starting to celebrate my good fortune. He blows a tire at the 5 and goes down just short of the goal line.

Northwestern vs Ohio State comes to mind from a few years back. NW had the ball but were covering as +6ish dogs. Last play of the game guy tries a lateral on the hook and lateral and ball somehow bounds like 5 times backwards into the end zone and OSU falls on it with triple zeroes.
