Charlotte is a great spot and if you need a bigger city Atlanta is only 3.5 hours away.

Oregon ! I have visited almost all of our 50 states and I love Oregon ! Why ? No question it is one of the most beautiful States. There are rivers running everywhere, Mountains for Skiing, Lakes for Water Skiing, Golf courses that are affordable everywhere, and the Oregon Coast is the most beautiful in all the States. Also it is green all year long and you can grow anything. Drawbacks are it rains a lot but that never has bothered me because that is what makes it so green ! I hate the heat of Las Vegas and you can grow almost nothing ! Vegas is a desert and before long it will become a ghost town as We will be running out of water ! As soon as my wife retires.... I'm out of this ugly, Parched desert ! P.S. Temp this coming week is 110 to high of 115 on Wednesday... Sucks and don't give me that BS about " It's a dry Heat "

Newport, RI

Got up this morning about 8 a.m. Took my dog to the park, cycled to the beach for a quick swim, checked out the tall ships that are in town, got breakfast at the corner cafe, caught the last 25 minutes at St Augustine's, showered and now I'm ready to get my drink on for the afternoon at one of the outdoor bars downtown.

Happy days !

What do you guys know about living in Maine? Has anyone been up there? I've seen some homes for sale on the internet and it seems like you get a lot for your money there.

Maine is cool. Have spent a lot of time there. Doubt if I could live there all year round. Maybe in Portland.

North Carolina....gets enough snow to look at but not enough to be a hassle....gets hot enough to enjoy the pool and beach but not hot enough to make you miserable. A bunch of great cities, lots of green everywhere, good economy, not a high cost of living, friendly people, professional sports teams, ACC football/basketball/baseball, some GREAT universities..has the beach and the mountains

I'm about 5 minutes from Cary which is mentioned on the list above

Yep.

Gyno, those apartments behind Wrigley are $1500+/month. Also no rooftop rights.

That's it? Christ, you can't even find an apartment in SF for $1500/month and can barely find a livable one in San Jose or LA for that. That is a bargain if you ask me.

Has to be way more than that. I pay about $750 to live in a 1 bedroom box right outside the city. No way for twice the money you'll get an apartment overlooking Wrigley.

It all depends on what you're looking for. I love the dry summer heat out here-beats the hell out of dealing with humidity.

The cost of living is high, and the traffic can really suck-but this is my Disneyland. I just wish it snowed about 10 feet more each winter

TT, I have to agree on the dry places. As you know, the humidity of the Midwest sucks in the summer. I heard somewhere that there is a dividing line of arid/humid weather that goes right down the middle of ND, SD, Neb, Kan. and Okla. East of there you have a humid climate and west is arid or dry.

Move that line west a little ways. It's weird-Denver is in the dry zone, but if you head 50-100 miles east, it's a different story. There's actually a big difference between "in Denver" and at the airport 25 miles east of town. I saw my last tornado from the airport parking lot there this spring  .

My ex lives on West Cornelia, between Broadway & Halstead and pays $1200 for a 2 bed. Nice place too and only a block from Wrigley.

Seriously? WTF, does Chicago have some ridiculous rent control ordinance like NYC and SF or is Wrigley in a shitty area? Just seems absurdly low.

Its a pretty gay area (not that there's anything wrong with that) but a two minute walk to lake and two blocks from the Stadium. You have Addison train station and a million buses too if you don't have a car.
