It's pretty clear that Shackelford will not only take the lead in this race but will control the pace throughout. In the Preakness, he cut out a 22:8 first quarter mile and still held off Animal Kingdom in the stretch. Today, he will even have the advantage of not only being the sole speed in the race but racing over a sealed muddy track that today has already shown to be favoring speed or horses sitting right off the pace. Closers have been no where to be found today because of the surface. The only question is can he go the 1 & 1/2 mile distance. First of all, the Belmont Stakes, although another quarter mile longer then the Kentucky Derby usually has a winner near the pace as all these 3 year olds have never gone this distance and don't always have their usual kick left in the final quarter unless the pace is hot, which it won't be today. Second, the surface and the fact that he is the sole speed and will control the pace gives him a great chance to last the distance. At his current odds of 9-1 he is a great overlay IMHO. Looking for him to go wire to wire.

#12 Shackleford (Across The Board)

Good luck everyone!

Ok, since I went with him in the Preakness and hit the Ex that day. Why not try him again.
Before the Weather report came out a few days ago, I thought to myself how could
#12 Shackleford stay in the race and not tire. Now comes the call for Rain... So i was hoping and praying that it would. and that the track would be Muddy or Sloppy
and we got a little of both.

Like Steak said, nobody is looking at Shackleford. and like OMT said, Track favors Speed, and horses that will stay up close.

I'm going to take a shot again since he has made me some nice Coin in the Preakness, and he is Value here at 9/1

Shackleford ....... Win & Place

Ex Box .....

5 Brilliant Speed
9 Animal Kingdom
10 Mucho Macho Man
12 Shackleford

I also used a "saver" Ex Box of 1-9-10-12

BOL ! To Everyone :toast:
