Detroit is up 5.5 games for one reason and one reason only.
19 game winner Justin Verlander.
Now usually I'm reluctant to back a player who appears in only 35 games, but he's solely responsible for 19 of Detroit's wins, with out him, Detroit is not in first place.
How is that not *valuable*
Grandy, or Gonzo are very valuable to their teams, however the two of them did not account single handedly for19 wins.
Verlander is most *valuable* by definition.

Since MLB went to the division format in 1969, Verlander, Maddux, and Pedro are the only pitchers to have WH/IP ratio's of under 0.90 after 20 starts in any season.
