It's a one season award. Legends have a place called the Hall of Fame for their feats to be rewarded.
Santana is 24, if he was 34 I would agree that he is a flash in the pan. But he came up at 22, pitched outstanding in middle relief, then was rewarded with a spot in the rotation. Since he's started he has been the best pitcher in the American League, no questions asked.
The Twins were smart to bring him up and put him in middle relief with no pressure on him and ease him into the rotation. Instead of throwing him into the fire and ruining his confidence. More young pitchers should be brought up this way.

Santana's age is the best arguement as GreenDoberman has pointed out Rob...He could win a few more even...

Rob, what the hell are you talking about sir?
The last "flash in the pan" to win it was Hentgen in 1996, yes 1996.
Calling Schilling a legend is a stretch to say the least. He's certainly very good, but 186 career wins is not "legendary".

Santana is 24. At 24, Schilling was 1-2 for the year. Pedro was 14-10. I'd compare Santana favorably to Pedro at this point, and while he has a long way to go to get career numbers approaching either Schilling or Pedro, he has a good start.

Please take the blinders off, sir, I want this to be a respectful debate, but I cannot see your reasoning for the life of me.
