Izzy was terrible this year and arguably besides injuries could be main reason Cards only won 83 games. Anyway, Wainwright is better than Jones and Izzy and Zumaya may be better than all of them with his fastball though Wainwright will be a starter more than likely next season.

If you think about it why the hell would he not wash it off in the first place if it remains sticky? If that were the case put it on, wash it off so you cant see it and pitch away. He used something but doubtful it was benzoin

shotgun,
Quote:Larussa never handles anything in a classy way. He's a jackass who will use every edge possible to extract an advantage over his opponent. He either noticed Roger's hand and was waiting for the best time to screw the Tigers over, or he didn't see it. The ump told Rogers to wash it off, Rogers did, then shut down St. Louis.

And seriously, Cards fans better not say anything about doctoring a ball when you have Jeff Weaver and Jeff Suppan on your team.

Weaver and Suppan may be using something but to my knowledge or anyone else's on here have never been caught or photgraphed for that matter. Another fabrication unless you can bring in some proof.

In regards to Larussa, he definitely has an edge to him but to say he is not classy is another false statement. Larussa has a ton of class as always downplays wins, sticks to the facts in wins, Darryl Kile situation, keeps his feuds for most part out of media with Rolen,Ozzie,Gant, etc, and now how he is handling situation. I am not 100% support what Larussa has done or how he is as a manager as I have questioned him, but when it comes to class, this is not something I question.<!-- / message -->

Cardinals won 83 games because DeWitt is a tightwad...

They replaced Grudzielanek with a merri-go-round of Luna, Miles, and would have had Spivey there too if he could have hit at all in spring training. The difference in that joke and keeping Grudz was 2 million dollars.

Then they replaced Larry Walker with Encarnacion... and Sanders with a platoon of Taguchi, Bigbie and Gall.

Matt Morris was replaced by Ponson.

They replaced Al Reyes with Braden Looper.

WJ became infatuated with AJ Burnett...and once he signed with the Jays...all that $$$ they had for him disappeared back into DeWitt's checking account.

Ok so if Izzy only blows 5 saves...they win 88 games.

Either way...the team is what it is...because DeWitt did not want to increase the payroll.

I am glad they made this improbable run...hell I was glad they didn't become the greatest chokers in regular season baseball history...

If they win it all...

Then I will not be pissed at DeWitt when he does not increase the payroll in '07 too.

No they haven't been proven to be cheaters. And neither has Rogers, yet you want him suspended.

I know an ump who says Larussa is mean, vindicative, and one of the best at playing dirty...that's not how I define classy.

Read TLR's book...

He talks about beaning hitters...

When he was in Chicago and Oakland...his pitchers nailed guys...

Now in STL he changed his position a little...stopped having guys throw at batters' heads...because TLR got hit in the head as a player...and well he does not like that...

LaRussa has a huge ego...and he is not the guy you want to get into a beanball war with.

Kojak,

If you want to talk about cheaters, you should start with that roid head freak Puljos. Your Cards are going to EAT IT.

shotgun,
Regarding Rogers, how can you say he is not a cheater with photo proof? If you need to be reminded of that proof check out espn. In regard to Larussa, he is a hard nosed manager who does not take any shit. Don't doubt the competitor on the baseball field. Dusty Baker is same way. So was many other great managers. Ozzie Guillen is he not fiery. His quotes show no class. Off the field, Larussa is a classy guy. Many are hard nosed on and classy off. I am one that has no problem with his on the field demeanor. Billy Martin, Earl Weaver, Lou Pineilla, etc. are great managers who are fiery on the field and I respect. All I can say is look at track record of regular seasons and despite chokes in postseason, he is always there and has done it with 3 different organizations.

Sidenote to this story is how Larussa found out about Rogers. Being reported that when Joe Buck and Tim McCarver spotted it in booth, Buck actually made call down to Larussa to notify him. I don't think this was appropriate. Call should have been made to MLB not Cardinals dugout! Now imo that is low class on Joe and Tim's part! Announcers are supposed to remain neutral.

Railbird,
Funny how the discussion is about Rogers but you bring up Pujols who has passed every test he has ever taken including World baseball classic where olympic tests are used. You need to stick to the topic unless you have some photo, tangible, or any other proof otherwise your statement holds no merit and is fraudulent.

Could you please provide a link to that report?

I do not believe Joe Buck made him aware...if he did I think he gets fired by FOX.

I believe it was the Cards players that told LaRussa...Vizcaino definitely was shown to be telling him something he saw.

Encarnacion seemed to also be involved in telling LaRussa that Rogers' pitches were moving too much.

I have watched Rogers pitch all year and I didn't see anything out of the ordinary with his stuff last night.

And even if he did use this Benzoin, and all it does is allow the pitcher to grip the ball better, how is it really different than the pitcher using the rosin bag? It is not like he is accused of doctoring the actual baseball to make it do tricks.

If I said the sky is blue you would tell me it is red. If you can't see the possibility of what Rogers has done then it is you with the blinders on like always. I am not holding up saying Cards lost game because of it. My point is a cheater is a cheater regardless of team or situation. Rogers is better than Jones and I recognized that. You need to stop selectively taking a word I say and making an arguement towards me on it and be open minded on entire arguement. Keep it to discussion not personal.

Certainly agree that cheating was a likely occurence sir, just telling you why the cardinals started hitting the ball in the ninth, which is because Todd Jones sucks.

Royalsfan,
I agree Jones sucks. Trying to remember but was he also part of the Reds meltdown in Cincy year or two ago when Cards got like 8 in top of 9th to comeback and win?

Also, does anybody remember when Kenny went into the clubhouse with his glove still on...very unusual...I wonder WHAT ELSE he was trying to hide.

There is no question he was using a sticky substance to help his game (and has been all postseason), but I dont know if that's 100% why he has been pitched so well in the post-season. I am just wondering what else he has been doing that may have improved his game that much more...

Update on Buck response: I have found nothing to support what my brother told me in written or audio/video form. I even posted on www.stltoday.com/sports/cards a thread to find out if anyone had heard or read and to post a link. So far nothing. I will tell you what is funny though is ST. Louis Post Dispatch is censoring talk boards on this subject for no apparent reason. This whole thing is mysterious. Makes me wonder if Larussa is being quiet to cover up things Cards are doing from coming out? If anyone would know, Leyland would since he was with Cards organization for 5 years and good friends with Larussa.
