I remember winning a winner take all season long NFL pool once. It was a few seasons ago and it all came down to me and one other guy going into that last Monday night game between the 49ers and Rams. I had the Rams and he had the 49ers. Looked over at halftime with the 49ers up big but the Rams made a monumental comeback in the second half to win.

I felt it was such a bad beat, I gave him 20% of the winnings. Then took another 10% and blew it on a big pizza night for everyone in the pool. You don't get much out of showing that class but there are times when it's appropriate.

With the situation described, I think at least buying the guy lunch or something like that would be best. Running big pools can be a lot of grunt work and you should show a little class to him.

You guys are giving great feedback, but are all missing the point. The point is, I never expected a tip. The guy mentioned was given over $1900.00 by me over the course of 3 pools withing the last 6 months. Never ONCE said thank you when I handed him the cash. As a matter of fact, he left skid marks on my fingers ripping the envelopes out of my hands...

normally in bowling u will tip the guy taking up jackpots. this is no different if he is not taking a cut. 10% is the norm, but i would not give him $100, more like $50 if he did not take anything out already.

Always felt that the guy running the office pool is putting in some time so he should be compensated in some manner. Giving him a free square or two seemed reasonable. A percentage, depending on how high, might work as well. As for a tip, that should not be expected and if received, considered a bonus.

I've got 2 for him

1) Don't eat yellow snow!

2) Don't eat the big white mint!

Fucker must be drunk to try and leech a buck out of a (hopefully) random situation... same with skimming a % off of the top. :nopityA:

Tip the craps dealers, tip race track clerks but give zero to the guy that runs the squares pool. If he has to chase people down for their money and is responsible for paying the winners, too bad right? 10% isn't much to offer for a win that you wouldn't have had if he didn't run it, least that's my thoughts on the matter.

im collecting from the guy that runs our suicide/loser pool this weekend
he's getting lunch and about 10% from me (he doesn't know or expect that)
these things are a pain in the balls to run
i doubt any of the past winners have given him anything
they are all super squares
really surprised by the responses here against duking the guy
this is not a haiku
it just kinda looks
like one
but longer

Yes you should tip depending upon what kind of pool it is. My friend ran a Bowl Pool and made a nice excel spreadsheet which he would send out after every day of the pool. Took a lot of work and a nice guy. I tipped him close to 20% of what I made on the pool. And I didn't think twice about it.

I AGREE, and thanks to BUCS, WIL, FISH, JOH and others here for running great contests at the RX. Hopefully I can get each of you a drink at some point, I plan on going to Vegas. Running pools and contest can be thankless at times with people haggling over small change. I've run over a dozen fantasy leagues, plenty of contests, as well as a few at an online site as well.

I won a 1500 survivor pool at a contest at another forum, so I patronized a book there for the owner, If I win a nice contest I'll up through their site as a Thank You (the least I could do).

Running a pool should be done with the goodness of ones heart. Asking for a kickback is just not right. Its one thing to be offered and accept but to ask and be mad if you're not offered. Please

unwritten rule is to tip 10 % for superbowl boxes

when i won 50k i gave him 5k (he said he did not want that much we settled on 4k)

especially if he is not taking anything off the top. when betjamaica runs their square pools they take 8 % right off the top.

Running a pool honestly and efficiently is usually very hard work. I never expected anything as far as payment or a tip when I ran pools, however, I did expect a thank you or a coffee or a beer. I never did take a sip of a coffee or beer, but occasionally someone would say something like " I'm glad you are running this thing. Not those other mf's". That ended being payment enough, because it was good to hear what I knew was true.

from any winners. What are your thoughts on this. A guy won $1,000 in his Super Bowl square pool and didn't offer a tip and he got pissed. Why if you run an office pool should you expect a cut of the winnings. I don't play in many so I don't really know the norm. I'll give him this thread to read when it is done, and feel free to pile on if you choose to.

I run many of them myself and never expect a tip and I do not not take free squares just for running them. If someone wants to give me a tip, I will accept it but I do not expect it. I hate those that do.
