Here's another scheduling angle that might be worthwhile to track. It seems that after an NHL team goes on an extended road trip (say, 5 or more games) that they come up flat in their first home game following that trip. For example, the Islanders just completed a 7 game road trip and even implored the local fans to fill UBS Arena last night. The result? A dull 2-1 loss with their only goal coming with less than four minutes to play.
Some quotes afterwards: "Yeah, they're always tougher games. We didn't have the same jump that we had on that road trip" (Coach Patrick Roy) and "The legs are heavy, your sleep schedule is still off" and "coming back from a long trip sometimes takes a day" (Anders Lee).
I don't have the hard data to back this angle up but it seems to work more often than not. Anyway, wanted to put this out there as another possible NHL scheduling edge.

That seems to works really well when a team has a great road trip like Islanders won 6 of 7. I remember when Kraken swept a 7 game roadie and came back home and lost. Just an extended trip not so much but a very successful won like 6 of 7. But thats kinda rare

Isn't going against teams back to back 4 in 6 like 8-1? That would make teams not in back to back 5-11. Seems like stick to only back to back. Maybe as season goes longer with tired legs it might change.
