as far as recruiting impact with Napier leaving it would really be with WR Smith and DT Mathis, especially WR Smith. I could easily see LSU getting signatures from Smith, Mathis, and Harris this week.

I would put both DT Ray and WR Ruggs at 90%+ Tide-bound....

Mathis will be holding his presser on Tuesday afternoon so we will know LSU or Bama before LOI day. I think Parks is still in play as well but they would not have room for Solomon, Mathis, Ray and Parks on the D-line.

looks like Parks is in a tough spot. Bama backed off on Monday knowing both Ray and Mathis were signing and got the news from Parks that he wanted to sign for Auburn. this morning the barn got a surprise commit from a player they coveted for the same position, Markaviest Bryant, and ran out of scholarships to told Parks a minute before his press conference that he no longer had a committable offer. ouch!

- not sure if Florida or Florida State have room for him? Bama is going to try to get Parks into this class by getting someone to greyshirt but that's a tough ask on LOI day....

Solomon signed with Michigan...no surprise for me, just glad it's over. such a fn drama queen. disappointed, absolutely not surprised.

Bama so far got Ruggs and Mathis, both fully expected, and still have Smith and Ray to choose this afternoon. I am 95% confident in Ray, 80% in Smith so I expect both to grab the crimson cap with the A on it....

Kirby is closing like a badass today for UGA. serious class he put together.

thx mws ... best class ever under saban and possibly since Rivals and Scout went into business

in last 24 hours got Ray and Mathis at DT, Smith and Ruggs at WR, and even signed Parks in as a greyshirt DE so he will enroll in Jan 2018.

getting 5 of those final 6 was really a best case scenario to cap off a remarkable class

heck of a finishing week from Kirby and McElwain....guess they learned a little something from The Master

Well, McElwain closed great and didn't totally shit the bed! Not a great class, but filled a lot of needs and got more 4-star talent than he previous 2 classes. I'll take it. This is "his" team now and he needs to produce an offense. His offenses have been ranked lower than Muschamp's offenses at UF, I didn't think that was possible!

Some coaching moves coming in the SEC also.

Missouri: Washington State quality control assistant Brian Odom has joined the Missouri staff as outside linebackers coach. Odom is the brother of head coach Barry Odom. Brian Odom spent two years at WSU and previously worked in strength and conditioning at Houston and Arizona. He was a graduate assistant at Missouri in 2005. In addition, safeties coach Ryan Walters will now coach the entire defensive backfield.

Mississippi State: Former San Jose State defensive coordinator Ron English has been named safeties coach at Mississippi State. English spent one year at SJSU and was previously the head coach at Eastern Michigan. He was also defensive coordinator at Louisville and Michigan.

SEC: The league made $584.2 million in 2015-16 and distributed an average of $40.2 million to each school.

Florida: West Virginia running backs coach JaJuan Seider will join the Florida staff, according to the Charleston Gazette-Mail and multiple reports. Seider spent four years at WVU and previously worked at Marshall and as a WVU graduate assistant.

Texas A&M: Former FIU defensive coordinator Ron Cooper has joined the A&M staff as defensive backs coach, according to TexAgs. Cooper spent two years at FIU and was the head coach at Eastern Michigan, Louisville and Alabama A&M from 1993-2001. He has also coached at LSU, South Carolina and Mississippi State.

Alabama: Tennessee director of creative services Jonathan King has accepted the role of creative director for football at Alabama. King spent five years at Tennessee and was previously an assistant director for Crimson Tide Productions from 2005-12.

Arkansas: Asked about staff additions, Bret Bielema said Wednesday he'd met with candidates in recent weeks and added, "We've got a guy coming in tomorrow. We've been affected, there's a guy that I was heavily interested in that was with a (NFL) team that got beat a week ago, so I couldn't deal with him until after the playoff loss. Still involved with one guy who is still playing. … I'm not in a hurry to change. We'll go these next couple weeks filling out and complimenting the rest of the staff.”

a few days too late for Ole Miss to buy some new players ;)

The SEC Commissioner announces they are distributing $584M to member schools. That is an increase of more than $108M over last year. The average for each university is $40.4M.

After crunching the numbers, Bill Connelly of SB Nation has just announced his first S&P+ projections for the 2017 season. As you might imagine, Connelly has a ton of faith in the SEC – especially the West teams – as several league teams dominate the rankings once again.
The S&P+ rankings are determined by three factors: Recruiting, returning production, and recent history. Connelly goes in-depth on each item of his grading scale at SB Nation.
While Alabama is the runaway #1 team in these S&P+ projected rankings, LSU is also regarded as one of the best teams. Had a few close games gone differently for the Tigers, LSU’s 2016 season would have gone much better.
LSU went just 1-4 against teams in last year’s S&P+ top 15, but the four losses were by a combined 23 points. Against teams outside of the top 15, the Tigers were 7-0 with an average win of 22 points. They were an excellent, slightly unlucky team, and they project in the top 10 per all three projection factors — recruiting, returning production, and recent history.
The note on LSU is important to remember, as close game results are typically a 50/50 proposition and have a way of correcting themselves. If the Tigers can flip that script and go 4-1 in close games in 2017, LSU could be in for a fantastic season.

Here’s every SEC team’s initial projected 2017 S&P+ ranking:

#1 Alabama
#4 LSU
#9 Auburn
#15 Florida
#19 Texas A&M
#20 Georgia
#24 Tennessee
#26 Ole Miss
#30 Mississippi State
#32 Arkansas
#36 South Carolina
#41 Kentucky
#53 Missouri
#63 Vanderbilt

closed really well but have to be concerned that only 9 of the 23 are offensive players. obviously FL is a tough state for a single program to lock down but pulling ZERO of the top 15 in your home state is just not good enough. east champs b2b years so not like his job is in trouble but gotta find an offense and hook into IMG

The problem with trying to hook into IMG is most of the kids that play there arent from the area, and really, there isn't many big time high school programs that close to Gainsville. Still, there is no way that Florida shouldn't land some of the top 10 high school kids each year.

He loaded up on offense his first 2 classes and neglected the defense.....he needed to load up on defense. So no concern there. The concern is no 5-stars and no real "star" players. Solid players, w/ 14 4-stars, but only a couple have real "star" power (1 WR and 1 RB). Otherwise, a lot of ham-n-egger's.

Florida: South Florida defensive backs coach Corey Bell and North Texas offensive line coach Brad Davis have joined the Florida staff. Bell spent the last two years at FAU and had recently joined the USF staff, while Davis spent one year at North Texas.

UF loses a great DB coach, Torrian Gray, to the Redskins. He was only at UF one year.

McElwain has 3 openings, and filled them w/ 1 great hire (Seider) from WVU at RB's coach. The other two hires (from USF/FAU and North Texas) are head scratchers. Does anyone think Alabama would have hired either of those coaches?
