pulled for true frosh, Jalen, after 2 series', then sent back in for mop-up duty, then left school a month later

but if you can win the Elite XI MVP and start in your first game at an elite football program you can't be that horrible. and, hasn't really had much of a chance to show what he can "do on the field"....1 college start (for 2 drives) and 5 mop-up appearances.

kid has been told how great he is all his life and has no fight in him but, at one time, had absolutely elite talent compared to kids his age. I will be surprised if he doesn't win USF starting job over two true freshman and smack around Tulsa, Tulane, ECU, and UConn. Massive step down in competition for him

No QB has turned out good bouncing from multiple schools. I mean college is a totally different animal than high school football. A lot of them just don't pan out. Barnett reminds me of Gunner Kiel. Another QB that has been told how great he was and never lived up to the hype.

Gentlemen, remember this. If these kids were any good, they would be the starters at their former schools. Sure some can mature and evolve into good QB's, but for the most part, they just do not have what it takes to make it.

first off, not many end up at 3-4 schools so it is really a small sample size but even with that tiny sample size I'm assuming you would agree that sCam Newton, Nick Marshall, and Chad Kelly were pretty damn successful QB's and Jarrett Stidham doesn't look awful either. All those guys are 3-schoolers...

second, i can name as many successful qb's from original school as the transfers including an ex-FSU qb that won a national title in Tuscaloosa and a few recent Heisman winners (mayfield, sCam...)

I fully expect Barnett to tear up that shit conference

complete bullshit. i can name at least 40 guys that weren't starters at their first school that went on to be very successful starters at their 2nd or 3rd school. just named several above and that is barely touching on the amount of guys that excelled after transferring and most did so when dropping down a level in competition like Barnett is doing.

If you have to drop down a level, or several levels to compete, then IMO, you are NOT a solid starting QB who could start for anyone. The fact of the matter is that Barnett could NOT make it as a starter for Arizona State, the worst team in the Pac 12 South. Just because a QB transfers to a winning team DOES NOT mean that he made that team a winning team.

Exactly. ASU isn't known for star QB's for the most part and he couldn't even cut it there.

I would think we were talking about talent. So really don't know why you would even put Nick, Cam, and Chad into this. All three were dismissed for behavioral problems not because they couldn't start. Not really concerned with the sample size, just the facts. Bouncing from 3 or 4 schools doesn't net great results.

Bama has won titles with subpar QB's plenty of times so Coker isn't special.

I expect Barnett to flop and be benched by mid season. He's just not good.

Your problem is that you are such a big SEC homer, you cannot see the truth staring you right in the face. The fact is that the Pac 12 has had many more successful QB's than the SEC has. USC and Stanford has had better QB's than the entire SEC added up. And that is not even counting Cal, who had Rogers, who is better than any QB tht ever came out of the SEC, and other QB's.

typical discussion around here. make a stupid fn blanket statement like "No QB has turned out good bouncing from multiple schools" and once it gets humiliatingly picked apart then come back on to qualify it and act like you didn't really type "No QB has turned out good bouncing from multiple schools"

so the wisdom bestowed upon me this summer has been that 1) QB transfers all suck and 2) recruiting is nothing but a crap shoot. too bad i share the same o2 as you people

Pooh, you lose credibility with every post. Google 'best college qb's' and 'best NFL qb's' ...

Not one single NFL list has a usc qb mentioned in the top 25. Leinart was mentioned in a few college posts but for the most part was either omitted or way down the list.

Stanford has put out some talented qb's but remove Elway from the equation and no one else is considered elite at any level.

On the flip side, 4 sec quarterbacks dominate the top college listings - Tebow, Newton, Manning and Manziel. On the NFL side, Manning is at or near the top of everyone's list. This makes your statement about usc and stanford producing better qb's than the entire sec look kinda foolish.

Stop shooting from the hip and your posts will have more credence.

Please do not take this the wrong way, but are you totally crazy? Google? You actually use Google for this type of information? Are you seriously trying to tell me that a totally worthless QB like Tim Tebow is better than Andrew Luck? How about Manziel? Is he better than Marcus Marietta, or either one of the USC Heisman Trophy QB winners? Gee the next thing you will be telling me is that USC RB's like O.J. Simpson, Marcus Allen, and Reggie Bush (who received more 1st. place Heisman votes than any other player) are not any good either. You have a very odd definition of elite. To you, Elite means whomever YOU think is good. That is the only possible explanation that I can imagine for such an outrageous post. No offense, but it is rather obvious that you are new to this game. You are obviously a homer, and homers always end up on the losing side of the wagering spread sheets.

Your feeble attempt to belittle is quite amendable.

Google is a remarkable tool for gathering public opinion. That was why I used it - to see how others (general public, sports writers, etc.) viewed the best qb's of all time. The results (general consensus) speak for itself, not only has the sec produced many, many more elite qb's than usc and stanford, it isn't even close. Defend your position all you want, it won't change the facts and it damn sure won't change public opinion.

The rest of your post is pure rubbish. My reply was in regard to you saying usc and stanford had better qb's than the entire sec. You countered by bring up murderers, running backs and oregon qb's. Just like your advise on wagering, it isn't relevant.

Talk about wagering, one who believes you bet the same on each game knows nothing about betting. Or should I say, winning. Successful betters do their own handicapping and determine value for each game they play. Statistically, it is similar to a bell shaped curve in a normal distribution. The further your value is from the mean (vegas spread) the more value you have and better chance to win. If you have perceived value of 8 in one game and perceived value of 15 in another you adjust the amount you bet accordingly. Smart betters who do their homework and are good determining value win consistently. Those not good at determining value turn to touts, bet their favorite team or use some other ridiculous mean to determine which teams to play. It's easy for them and sometimes they win, but long term it is not a profitable proposition.

Then there are people who don't bet but claim they do. Like those who come up with some kind of magical proposition that doesn't exist- like betting the Washington team total over 8 when the line is really 10.

Or maybe you just don't like hearing the facts? Either way no talent players like Giel and Barnett have flopped from bouncing from multiple schools. But you're going to add QB's who got kicked out of school to meet your agenda. I don't believe getting kicked out of school is a voluntary transfer. Maybe it's just me. smdh.
