Many of them contain a new virus called: Actns/Swif.T

CA found it this morning. Thankfully deleted it. But it must be a new virus. Damm..Can't listen to old George T Jones songs. The internet is getting worse each day.

I am also very stupid about computers. But a virus is worse usually later if you don't know you have one and it is not deleted.
Webroot (antivirus and spyware removal) didn't even block it. CA put up the warning and removed it. According to google info, it must be new.
I don't know why a Mac doesn't get virus problems. Guessing the assholes that put these things in gear them towards microsoft products since more people have them than apple products.
The problem for me (with Apple) is that I don't know if other windows software programs that I have will work on the Mac.
It's just a matter of time till these crooks go after their products too.

You may not have gotten the virus from YouTube yet. I played George T Jones songs/video last week on YouTube and no problem. This morning I clicked on the video while handicapping the horses and up popped CA's warning that it was infected. So it is a new virus.

love having a MAC...don't have to worry about any of this bullshit

I think my next computer will be a Mac. I have used them throughout my career and prefer them to Windoze. The reason I bought a PC was because a new Mac was $2500 and a new PC was $800.

I'll buy a used Mac next time.

But can a Mac run any windows program? I have a couple horse racing handicapping programs that I use from Windows. (I have the discs, but the info to use them comes from TSN racing)

I don't fully understand how Macs can't get a virus. Does Microsoft care about this?

So should we avoid Youtube ?

Does Norton catch it ?

Are a lot of videos carrying the virus, or all, or just a few ?

Noone seems to know how many YouTube videos it is embedded in. The one thing that is clear is that YouTube is where it comes from. It has to be brand new, since Dec 2nd, 2008 is the first info posted about this virus on Google.

I'm going to do a search to be sure that I don't have a program called Antivirus2009 on my computer. This is what the video tries to put on your computer. (Malware program tha duplicates itself)

Bought a new laptop, vista last year with advanced Mcafee.
Mcafee has caught every attempt at a virus.
Now I'm not dumping on Mac, but my Dell with Vista o/s, with Mcafee anti-virus software has been very good to me.

That is exactly what my computer did last week while watching videos on YouTube.

Another website is reporting that CA is showing a "false positive" for this being a virus.
I have no idea anymore what to think.

Good luck, mac users as a general rule have a bit of an elitist complex about their superior and aesthetically beautiful computers. I bought a new imac last year after searching craigslist, and you won't find very many good deals that outweigh just buying a new one. Believe it or not I even found people selling their opened, used iMacs for MORE than store value because they had "optimized the OS" or some bullshit.

But I do love my mac.

They run different operating systems and so the coding is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT.

A virus is, at its core, a program. A program designed for windows (PCs) will not work properly on a machine that runs the OS that Mac uses.

Thus, viruses coded for windows will ONLY work on Windows enabled computers; viruses coded for Macs will ONLY work on Macs.

Since the VAST majority of computers in the world run on Windows, people who create viruses pretty much only code for Windows, thus Macs don't have to worry *as much* because it's usually not worth the time to code a Mac virus.

That appears to be the case. I'm not finding anything saying that there is an actual virus threat.

These things happen-it's just a little egg on CA's face.

I dont know what to think but 8 years ago I had Norton on My PC and it gave me so much heartache chasing viruses that I scratched it. It then proceeded to give me more trouble than any virus story I had heard. Since then I've had no virus checker or firewall and in 7 Years I've never had a problem, however I dont surf Porn or dodgy websites, only Books and a few well known sites. :drink:
