I was at that 55-10 San Fran drubbing of Denver. It was in New Orleans. We walked by the "Denver" hotel before the game. The place was jumping, all the Denver fans, hooting and chest thumping. We walked by the day after the game and those people were looking like their mothers had died. Funny.
As for the game, anyone who says that Brady sucks because he's only a "system" QB, has to use the same litmus test for Joe Montana. In the pre free agent era, Montana played on a talent heavy team that also happened to include the best wide receiver of all time, Jerry Rice. He also played for a coach who had implemented an offense for the first time, the "West Coast" offense, that would become the model for all future offenses. That San Fran team that year, may well be the best team to ever play the game. I remember watching those receivers for San Fran be wide open on virtually every play. I mean W-I-D-E open. It was sinfully easy pitch and catch for Montana and his cast. Bill Walsh was the father of the West Coast offense. As far as I'm copncerned, Bellichick is the best NFL coach of all time. But Bill Walsh is in clear second. Not Vince Lombardi or anyone else. Bill Walsh. He changed the way offense was played forever.
Funny you guys should bring this game up. My favorite also. And I also made a big chunk of $$$.
