This 2008 rolling stones list has it as
1.Jemi Hendrix

2.Duane Allen (Almond brothas)

3.BB King

http://www.listal.com/list/rolling-stones-100-greatest-guitarists
That Rolling Stones list lost all street cred with me when they had a punk guitar player like Johnny Ramone in the top 20. Danny Gatton way down at 59 and SRV at 7 is a joke I hope. And I didn't even see Rory Gallagher listed. He should be in top 5. Joan Jett was listed over Robbie Kreiger, Leigh Stevens and Angus Young...LMFAO

Don't know enough to list 3.... but I'll always put Buckethead on a best guitarist list. So versatile.

Alvin Lee - I was a huge fan of Ten Years After growing up. Lee seems to have slipped into obscurity.

Honorable Mention time:

Michael Hedges

(Basically, he is the Eddie Van Halen/Jimi Hendrix of the acoustic guitar, along with Tommy Emmanuel and some others)
