So are you saying like in the hotel business most of the maids etc are legal? Just wondering I had a pre notion that many are illegal but I’m just a white guy in rural northland
if they are they must make up a social security number and provide proof for the I-9 they sign and hope the employer does not do a pre-employment background check that includes a SSN trace. they have to provide some info or there is no way marriott, trump, hilton, etc will put them on payroll and the larger the chain, the more the scrutiny. there is no way these places risk millions in fines by hiring illegals
certainly mom and pop shop maids are all illegals and paid under the table but large hotel chains are not paying under the table. that's why the majority of illegals will work in restaurant industry, 1-store hotel, or landscaping. they're all privately owned businesses that will take the risk
but, yes, i am saying if you stay in a decent hotel the maids are legal or have shown falsified information to pass as legal. the employer will need to keep a photocopy of the I-9 documentation provided in case they are ever questioned.
