A Pennsylvania man, who got the attention of a state trooper by not wearing a seatbelt, has been busted for possessing four kilos of cocaine.


At around 6 p.m. Monday, Luis Palacios Ortiz, 46, of Mount Joy, Pa., was seen driving a 2002 on Hamilton Avenue in Waterbury while not wearing a seatbelt.


The trooper then followed the vehicle onto I-84 east where it merged into the right lane.



The report by Trooper Welch read, “I then merged onto I-84 eastbound and was a few car lengths behind the vehicle in the left lane. As I was following the vehicle, I observed it swerve into the right shoulder over the fog lane once. I initiated a traffic stop on this vehicle at the eastbound 25A off ramp. The occupant was identified as Luis Ortiz. Ortiz granted consent to search the vehicle and four kilos of cocaine was found in a bag in a back seat in a bag.”


Ortiz, who was taken into custody and held on $250,000 bond was charged with possession of narcotics, illegal sale of drugs by a non-drug dependent person, failure to drive in the proper lane and illegal operation of a motor vehicle without a license.

Same in Florida. It's the most stupid traffic law that exists: you don't have to wear a helmet on a motorcycle. WTF?

I'd like to know why this guy allowed the trooper to search his vehicle. I'd tell the trooper, "No, but thanks for asking". No way in hell I'd let a cop search my car....especially if I had drugs onboard!

Same here, $25 fine on seat belt, and no helmet needed over 18 on a cycle.

It is cheaper for society to make people wear seatbelts then to have to deal with the aftermath of a crash where the driver wasn't wearing a seatbelt. In Florida if you want to drive your motorcycle without a helmet, you have to have insurance ($10k minimum medical coverage).

Seat belt saved my Life when I was 18 - We were speeding down a dirt road and took air off one of the hills, when the car came down we crashed...

Driver lost control & we went end over end once and rolled twice - Friend in the back seat flew out the back window, found him in a ditch 20M from the car. He was alive but pretty messed up
When I came to I was hanging upside down in the car b/c the vehicle was on it's roof.

Never been so scared in my life
