hey nolan was a good coach for buff and did a hell of a job. dumb letting him go imo, but who knows, probably business decision.

Word out of Buffalo after Nolan left was that was notorious for going behind the back of the GM to ownership. Get that reputation and it's pretty much a given you'll go 10-15 years between gigs.

There were some rumors that Hasek gave the team an ultimatium - Hasek or Nolan. I've heard even more rumors that it had something to do with Hasek's wife.
None of this was ever confirmed, but I think the Sabres organization was better off getting rid of these distractions, even if they weren't true and Nolan was a great coach.

I could see the Rangers winning Rd 2. Rangers were one of the best teams (record-wise) during the 2H of the season. They have a very legit goalie and 2 very very capable scoring lines.

I think this is a hockey thing -- whenever there is internal strife, there has to be someone's wife getting banged in the process. (Edmonton had the same rumor with Comrie nailing Salo's wife, Philly had it with Lindros nailing someone's wife)
Muckler came as close to anyone when he was interviewed a couple years back and essentially said that Nolan "went above me" which is the kiss of death for anyone applying for a job in that business.
