I told you guys I am in a kickball league on the national mall inbetween the washington monument and the capital building. There are like 10 fields/games going on there any given week night. Lots of hot young interns in the league running around and everybody walks to the bar after the games.

I've only made 3-4 games but we won every game my friends and I were at, but we missed a bunch and our team lost all of those games. My one buddy played college soccer in the ACC and kicks a fucking moon shot every at bat.

The funny thing is they don't roll meatballs down the plate, guys pitch and try and throw fast bumpy curvy balls and a lot of people wiff, or time it wrong and hit it with their shin and pop it up etc. Very few people kick HR's but my buddy is something like 8 for 8 with home runs and the dumb shit other teams don't even back up when he kicks again. He's a lock to kick HRs.

The league is worth the comedy in itself. I can't tell you how many times somebody just trips and falls flat on their face, or pegging somebody out, or falling in the mud, or looking at the hot girls titties bounce up and down...

what are kick ball rules ?

you can throw the ball at the runner , right ?

cant lead off , right ?

what are the basics of kick ball ? havent played since 5th grade...

Yeah. But if there are hot young interns there like he says, I will take it as serious as need be.

It's funny that the guys here that are posting about softball JUST being homeruns and beer drinking. Softball is much bigger then most of you think it would be. A professional softball league would obviously not have unlimited homeruns. It would be a 5 homerun limit so they would need to be used wisely plain and simple.

Coach LT that is some pretty cool stuff. I play on a younger team here in Iowa, we are young but are very good. We have had multiple people come up and tell us that we will be the best team here in the next 1-3 years. As you know softball is a lot about experience and the more we get the better we will be.

Speaking of homeruns though, yesterday in a tournament I saw a guy hit a 450 foot homerun onto the deck of a nearby house. It was the longest homerun I have ever seen, this guy is huge.

When I started playing in the late 60's we used wood bats and then in the early 70's crude aluminum were introduced. Innovation of the bats really took off.

The guys now are using high tech composite bats that are now in the 20-28 oz range. The last bat I played with was 38 oz aluminum. Also the bats cost in the low hundreds of dollars.

Every now and then I will have a dream that I am still playing. In the dream I hit a sharp ground ball between third base and the shortstop and the ball is fielded by the leftfielder and he throws me out at first base! :ohno: That is not a dream, it is a friggin nightmare.

3 little ditties that I have always liked.

Akillies, I have been doing a lot of Googling today and I found out the real pro's of big time softball don't have many teams left to play with. Looks like the money has dried up for the Super Teams and players. No one wants to see a 50-49 game anymore.

It has made me very melancholy today. Reminds me of a line in Rod Stewart's song, Georgie Boy. "Youth is a mask and it don't last, but live it long and live it fast" Look forward to seeing you at the Bash. :103631605:toast: LT

Come on guys, why? You are telling me that you wouldn't watch a slow pitch softball league on TV? It's a sport that MILLIONS of people play

Many more MILLIONS of people jog around the block or do some bench presses in the gym, but you don't see much crosscountry or powerlifting on TV

Arena League lasted a long time, before eventually folding; XFL was a failure by the time they played the first game. Baseball's minor league system has a pretty strong monopoly on the lower tiered talent. It is hard to get people to watch if the talent level is too low, it is hard to recruit any talent if there is no money, and you can't get any money if people aren't watching. . .

Coach, not sure about Father Time..maybe it's the Knees
Because I remember one year in a modified Fast ball League game, we face this 62 year old Pitcher, that Kicked our ass !

It was the first time we faced this guy, and we thought the team had picked up some old-timer ( maybe he was somebody's Dad ) @)

Well, the only ones laughing, were these guys.....

I played rec softball for 15 years, but then jobs and care-taking took me away from playing for the last seven years.

Now that my job doesn't require much movement, I had been sitting on my butt. Well, the doctor says, I got da high blood pressure, and I better do something about it.

I am not going to be jogging or going to some gym, so I say, well, I'm 40, I can go out there and start playing softball.

It jurt so bad at first because even though I maybe didn't look totally out of shape, my body wasn't ready for the impact.

I used to be very fast, often the fastest on the team, but now I am slow, but getting faster every week.

The best news is, after four months of playing, my 150/90 has dropped to 130/80, and I have dropped 10 lbs.

I am playing four days a week, so I am taking it seriously. But the funny part is, I don't even want to play, I am just doing it for my health.

I have gone from batting last and playing catcher, back to my original outfield position, and hitting leadoff or third. One of my teams was 1-5 when I joined, and we finished 7-1, taking down a championship, another league I play in another championship game on Tuesday.

One team, we went 0-12, and I never got moved from out of the catcher position, and I still was batting last at the end of the season.

I picked up all my teams on craigslist, so it is more than just hookers.

I have been told by my 0-12 team that my services will not be needed for a second season.

I'm wondering if I sucked that bad, or the manager just didn't know what he was doing. Our outfielders dropped so many balls, and all I could do was just stand behind the plate and shake my head.
