You ever read a book that had a major influence on you or something you have did

Old Man Ted refered a book to me yesterday and he said at the time he read this book it had a major influence on him. As someone who loves to read, this got me too thinking.

Lou Holtz's always says there are a few different things that will have a major influence on who you are and the the books you read is one of those things.

Anytime I get excitied about something new and I want to learn about it, I go right over to Amazon and see if I can find books on it. I did this with real estate, owning racehorses, living a life without a job, gambling, stock trading psychology, owning a dog, poker, acheiving goals, etc..

Really curious if anyone has any books that have helped them along the way, if so would love to hear what they are.

The Celestine Prophesy - taught me about observing natural beauty, control dramas, and the exchange of energy

The Dark Elf Trilogy - taught me that even though you are an ebony skinned Drow from the Loth controlled city of Menzobezarran in the savage underdark it is still possible to make your way to the surface but you may have to kill some orcs and goblins along the way.

Tuesdays with Morrie was the most moving book I have ever read. It tells a story of one of the bravest men I have ever read about who was able to smile even though He was facing a terrible death with Lou Gehrigs disease. Whenever I start to feel sorry for something that has happened in my life..... I look back at this great true story and say " I am lucky ".

I'm currently reading JOSH HAMILTON'S Biography, Beyond Belief: Finding the Strength to Come Back. It is a very good book and I always knew of his story a little because we were about the same age and remember him being taken in the draft around the time I was hoping to hear mine in a later round.

I actually didn't realize how low and in the dumps this kid was. Very good story. There are 2 really amazing, incredible comeback stories in the MLB right now, and so different on the scale of how each got there (the other one being the Ankiel story of going from P to OFer, and darn good at both positions).

I recommend this book for any baseball fan, anyone who enjoys reading about inspiration and overcoming adversity, or one that likes biographies from someone who is an intriguing story to you.

I'm now a bigger JOSH HAMILTON fan and here's hoping that this is only the beginning of his story..

The Mental Game of Baseball.

Read it prior to my Sr year in high school......wish I wouldve found it 3 years prior to that.

Basically a lot about controlling your thinking to the positive side. Changed the way I thought not only in baseball but in life as well.

I've had this on my bookshelf for a while Pub but haven't yet read it. Think I may do that this week instead of spending so much time you know where!

Great thread. Have read a number of the books mentioned above.

Unfortunately, no books come to mind right now, so I'm not aware or insightful enough of how/if they have influenced my life significantly enough or not. Will give it some thought...

Keep this thread alive as it may turn some of us on to some of the titles listed.
