He is also despised by many people

so are a lot of great athletes

fans being fans and doing their rooting thing is what fills the stadiums and plants people infront of the TVs on sunday

amongst scouts, GMs, other players and generally anyone with a clue he is respected and considered the best player in the world

if anyone really "despises" an athlete that has never been convicted of a crime or done anything truly awful, they probably need to get a life as well....

Good points, but who does 99% of America respect more, Lebron James or Michael Jordan?

They were or are the best in the world.....

Best player in the world and respected and liked are different things. He carries himself like hes better than himself calling himself King James. Point is, people would like him more if he didnt make it all about him self so much.

He should do another tv special with Jim Grey.

That will make people respect and like him more...

I don't think he is having any problems in the popularity department.

Whether you are Manning, Kobe, LeBron, etc...If you are a top athlete today people are gonna have a polarized reaction to you, that's just how it is.

I couldn't agree more, but see my previous post (before the one you just quoted)

about Michael Jordan?

pretty sure the way MJ lived his life couldn't exist in the current media climate that LeBron plays in today. No chance...

If LeBron punched a teammate or was in AC playing 50k a hand before a game vs the Knicks I think the internet as we know it would cease to exist. It would explode...

I'm not too sure about that.

How long did Tiger get away with all of his antics? He's the one who screwed things up for himself, not the media.

As far as MJ, he wasn't (or certainly didn't come off) nearly as egotistical as "King James".

That's your opinion I guess. Not really trying to be LeBron's lawyer or anything, just saying it is obvious he has the respect of most level headed thinking people in and around the NBA.

I stopped liking/disliking athletes when I was maybe 16 or so, can't really relate to the conversation as far as trying to discern their personality traits away from the court.

Why would I care Tiger fucked some girls and ruined his marriage? I don't know him or anything, I have no vested interest in anything he does...If I was getting a cut of some of the endorsement $ he lost maybe I'd care but other than that he cheated on his wife a bunch, so do a lot of rich people with that type of PA. Not saying it is right but it is what it is.

Also you know Tiger just got caught right?

You don't think his story is unique amongst athletes do you? The only reason it hurt Tiger so much is because he had that squeaky clean image before all that.

More respect than he already does?

He is universally considered the best basketball player in the world

Don't think he is hurting for respect

respect in life

something way more important than respect on the court

I'm not really trying to judge the character of entertainers that come on my TV, I just like basketball...Also if I was judging the characters of entertainers that came on my TV, I'm pretty sure it would take a while for LeBron to enter the conversation. I'd probably judge the guys convicted of a crime or the ones that just send their kids momma a check every month before him...

I'm sure he is doing ok in the life respect department though. Well besides in Cleveland, lol...

:nohead:$$:($$

Cruise kinda insufferable but he could give this board a boost feels like. I'm surprised the lack of posts given NFL is winding down with 2 huge games this weekend.

Cruise probably have lock picks for both games too...

People are always gonna convince themselves what they want to about athletes.

Fans that root for laundry can't really be objective for the most part. LeBron bad! Kobe bad! I don't respect them! It is just an easy storybook way to look at the game.

It's like dude tell me the best passing angle to beat a defense that is overloading the strongside and maybe I'll listen.
