Socialists Fine Speeder $217,000

When socialism finally completes its ascent in the United States, here's what we have to look forward to: traffic fines of $217,000 for those who have the nerve to be successful.

That's how much P.C. Finland fined a millionaire under a system in which traffic fines are linked to income.

The fine against 27-year-old Jussi Salonojawas based on information cops got directly for the revenue office, the Helsinki newspaper Iltalehti reported reported Tuesday. It didn't say how fast he was going.

Wow. Imagine how much John "Two Americas" Edwards, the multimillionaire trial lawyer, would have to pay under such a socialistic system as he speeds toward defeat in the presidential primaries.

Fines linked to income? That'll just result in an inordinate amount of administration ... stupid. Is this actually part of Kerry's platform, or are you stretching the truth, Pat?

And, surely you don't think Kerry is synonymous with Socialism, do you? If so, you must consider Canada Communist, then. (We aren't even Socialist.)

As you neo-nazis say about the PATRIOT ACT - "if you follow the rules then you have nothing to worry about", right?

Or is this different because the wealthy are involved?

Eventhough I am a republican and voting for Bush. This has nothing to do with Kerry nor does Kerry have extreme socialistic ideas.

There was a bigger fine before this one in Sweden I think some years ago. Same basis of fine though, one of the CEO's of a tech firm got an even bigger fine because he raked in options money that year. He contested it vigorously claiming it should only count against his regular salary.

He was doing 50 in a 25 zone.
The chances are, if you do twice the speed limit or more, you will get hammered.
Speeding is viewed as badly as drinkdriving in some places.

I think its a great idea.
It means that people cant do what they like, no matter what they earn.
There's a real financial penalty if they get caught.

The rich aren't Gods Patriot, they're just the same as the rest of us.(nice people, assholes, etc etc)

His declared earnings were £5million for 2002.
He got fined £120,000 which is about two and a half percent.

So he'll struggle by on whats left, and he might not do it again too, 'cos it hurts.

X an Alex...might be overstating it..but the key phrase in that article is "when socialism completes its ascent"...kerry will be for sure to keep it on its path...this guy will be raising taxes throught the roof,he will try to implement a national health care system,he will be involve in more fed regulations. He will follow the UN charter closer than he will the US constitution.
Kerry has taken more money from speacial intrest than any senetor in the house over the last 15 years or so....voted for more tax bills than Ted Kennedy.

You already spend more GDP on healthcare than almost any country on planet earth.

Because of the skimming and scamming that private industry excels at when they get their fat little fingers into essential public services, you have a crap healthcare system.

25 to 30 percent goes on ADMINISTRATIVE costs.

In theory, I think *all* fines should be based on income. Given that fines are imposed in order to deter/prevent "bad" behavior, I don't think a $90 speeding-ticket would prevent Bill Gates from speeding.

But in reality, I don't know if income-based fines are a practical idea.

"When socialism finally completes its ascent in the United States, here's what we have to look forward to: traffic fines of $217,000 for those who have the nerve to be successful."

According to the article, the millionaire was 27 years old. Hmmmmmmm. You have to wonder. Is he successful, or did he just inherit the money from his parents?

Patriot:

I don't think you even get what socialism is all about. Your US is hardly facing any 'threat' of it in the near future, don't you worry. And, truly, the most socialist aspect of your economy is found in corporate subsidies and other types of business 'welfare.' There is no country on earth who provides nearly as much taxpayer revenue to the interests of a handful of multinational corporations as the US.

I wonder if 'Socialist Capitalism' has made it into the Poli-Sci glossaries yet?
