Just in the terminology there is a big difference.

PAT - Point after touchdown, not points after TD. The point is awarded when the ball is sucessfully kicked through the goalposts from the two and one half yard line..

2 point conversion, is just that, an attempt to score on a play by running or passing into the endzone from the two and one half yard line. 2 points are awarded when sucessful, no kick is involved.

The definition of a PAT is the point (or points) that a team is entitled after they score a touchdown, wether they go for 2 or 1 is their choice, but the main point of a PAT is that they are given the oppotunity after a TD, so i would like to know why it would be different?
Hope my question is clearer now

I found the actual definition from NFL rules book.

1. After a touchdown, the scoring team is allowed a try during one scrimmage down. The ball may be spotted anywhere between the inbounds lines, two or more yards from the goal line. The successful conversion counts one point by kick; two points for a successful conversion by touchdown; or one point for a safety.

Never knew about the saftey thing.

Wil: Is that an online rule book? Can you post the link.

I'm wondering about the safety...my guess is that was added last year. Remember how the rule used to be on an interception or fumble, if the player's momentum took them into the end zone, they would give them a touchback...and then last year they changed it to, if you're in the field of play and take the ball back into the end zone even if unintentionally, it's still a safety. I guess that would have to be the case on a 2-point try (but still only worth 1 point).

That's a rambling way of wording it, but I hope everyone knows what I mean.
