even funnier...

In 2006, The Boston Red Sox had the highest payroll of any team in Major League Baseball history to NOT make the playoffs.

considering the injuries they had, it isnt that shocking. before all the injuries, they were on their way.

the Sox were completely healthy (w/ the exception of Clement- which was an addition by subtraction, Tek, & Nixon) when they got swept at home, in a five game series against the Yankees...that essentially made it 7 game lead in the East.

w/ a $120 million payroll...they're really is no excuse to finish third in the AL East.
