Unfortunately the media is in love with Charlie Strong. All I've heard the last 2 weeks on Satellite radio is how Texas is improving. I follow the sport religiously, I played at ASU, and for the life of me, I don't see any improvement in Texas. What even more troubling, is since they did not take the red shirt off their true freshman QB, he's going to be just as raw next year when he has to play and he'll be without some of the skill position talent that they had this year. Maybe I'm missing something but they did not beat a team in conference with a winning record. I don't see any progress in their defense and their QB play was atrocious all year. I feel for guys that took them tonite. That game was not competitive at all. There should be absolutely no silver lining in this season for UT backers.Plain and simple, they suck!! They are the Michigan of the Big12 and what makes it even worse is they are in a talent rich state. There's a 5 star player on ever corner here in Texas.
Strong came here after recruiting period and has pretty much none of the players he wants and more of what Mack Brown recruited.
Strong kicked off or lost 9 players from the team before the season even started.
Strong lost his starting QB in game #1. He also lost his starting center which was a huge loss on the OL.
There is a lot of talk about Stong not taking the redshirt off Heard knowing Swoopes was not a very good QB. At the time I was OK with it because I dont think Heard was ready. But looking back now, I wish they had.
Strong wants a pocket passer much like he had with Teddy Bridgewater. Someone who had mobility if needed but wasnt a big runner. Swoopes is not a strong pocket passer and i think would have been much better off in the read option. Then again, the read option is a good way to get your QB hurt and Texas doesnt have a 3rd string QB.
I'm willing to give Charlie a pass this year considering all that happened but he has a LOT to prove next year and Swoopes better not be the QB in 2015. He's clearly not the guy.
Understood that he booted 9 players, but there was supposed to be talent there. I am also hearing that Heard was not his guy and he did not want him because he wanted someone that Watson was more comfortable with. Which means that he's got to go get a QB of their liking. More importantly, their defense this year does not seem to be any better than it was last year. In big games against top teams, they've not done anything. They just let a pedestrian QB from Arkansas look good. They don't stop the run, they dont stop the pass, and both of those fall in his lap as HC who is defensive oriented. And I agree with you and by no means and I suggesting that they run the guy off, but he's got to show a lot more than what he showed this year. Another year like this and the Red McComb types will be howling. Hell Mack could have gone 6-7....
