I just could not believe the last late TD that caused it to go over.... WTF? Toronto probably wanted to rub it into the face of the Lions at home and avenging the early season lost..... We'll get' em this Week 6... I am staying away from the NFL Hall of Fame game this weekend and sticking with CFL. It's a lot easier when guys play for real....

Ti-Cats at Eskimos: What bettors need to know

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats are reeling after back-to-back losses to the Saskatchewan Roughriders in which they were outscored 69-20 and surrendered 298 total rushing yards. On Friday, quarterback Henry Burris and the Tiger-Cats will try to recover when they visit the floundering Edmonton Eskimos. Burris leads the league with 1,510 passing yards, but Hamilton has only managed 99 points - tied with Edmonton for lowest in the league - because of its lack of a running game.

The Eskimos’ only win came against Hamilton in heavy rain at the Tiger-Cats’ temporary home in Guelph, Ont., in Week 2. Quarterback Mike Reilly was pulled briefly after a poor start in last week’s loss to the Montreal Alouettes, but returned to bring Edmonton within one yard of winning on a long final drive. Reilly has completed only 72-of-128 passes and has thrown more interceptions (six) than touchdowns (five) in his first stint as a CFL starter, but the Eskimos are short on options to replace him as they look for their first home win of 2013.

TV:
9 p.m. ET, TSN

ABOUT THE TIGER-CATS (1-4): Running back Lindsey Lamar appeared to have solved Hamilton’s running issues with more than 100 total combined yards in a little over one quarter of action last week before he was injured by a high hit during a kickoff return. Lamar, who has 564 return yards as a rookie, was on the sidelines at practice Monday, along with newly signed linebacker Brandon Isaac. Veteran wide receiver Dave Stala caught two passes for 33 yards in his season debut, which was delayed because of injury.

ABOUT THE ESKIMOS (1-4): Running back Hugh Charles had his strongest performance of the year in Edmonton’s 30-20 victory over the Tiger-Cats. Charles ran for 119 yards, including a 70-yard dash that resulted in his only touchdown of the season. The Eskimos defense has 10 sacks, while linebackers Damaso Munoz and JC Sherritt lead the team in tackles with 34 and 31, respectively. Slotback Fred Stamps leads the team with 315 receiving yards and slotback Cary Koch returned a punt 81 yards for a touchdown filling in for injured kick returner Joe Burnett last week.

TRENDS:

* Tiger-Cats are 0-6 ATS in their last six games overall.
* Over is 9-2-1 in Eskimo's last 12 games overall.
* Under is 4-0 in Tiger-Cats last four games overall.
* Tiger-Cats are 1-4 ATS in their last five meetings.

EXTRA POINTS:

1. Edmonton is 0-2 at home; Hamilton is 0-2 on the road.

2. Burris, who is the only Tiger-Cats player with more than 100 rushing yards (139), is on pace to reach 5,000 passing yards for the third time in his career. The veteran pivot is fourth all-time in CFL touchdown passes with 308.

3. Hamilton has surrendered a league-worst 158 points and is 0-3 against West Division opponents.

Blue Bombers at Lions: What bettors need to know

A week after naming Justin Goltz their starting quarterback for the remainder of the season, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers face yet more questions under center. Goltz was hurt in his first career start and might not be available as the Blue Bombers try to snap a three-game skid when they visit the BC Lions on Monday. Goltz replaced struggling veteran pivot Buck Pierce, who is suffering from an abdominal injury, meaning that third-string quarterback Max Hall may get a chance to helm Winnipeg’s lacklustre offense.

The Lions' defense had trouble with a backup quarterback last week in a 38-12 road loss to Zach Collaros and the Toronto Argonauts. BC could not contain Toronto’s shifty offense, while quarterback Travis Lulay couldn't manage a touchdown on four separate trips to the red zone as the Lions failed to execute plays on both sides of the ball and saw their three-game winning streak come to an end. The Blue Bombers should not be as difficult for BC to defend, but Lulay will need to regain the form that saw him complete seven touchdown passes in the first four weeks.

TV: 7 p.m. ET, TSN

ABOUT THE BLUE BOMBERS (1-4): Winnipeg’s defensive line is no longer as fearsome as it appeared to start the season. Only defensive end Alex Hall and defensive tackle Zach Anderson have sacks in the last two weeks after the team recorded 18 over the first three. Hall leads the team with six sacks. Cornerback Jovon Johnson and defensive back Demond Washington are questionable for Monday’s game, while cornerback Jeremy McGee and defensive back Desia Dunn are expected to return from injury.

ABOUT THE LIONS (3-2): Linebacker Adam Bighill finished with two sacks in his return after missing two weeks with an ankle injury, but missed numerous other opportunities against the mobile Collaros. Running back Andrew Harris has 403 yards and is on pace for a career highs in yardage and touchdowns, while Lulay has added 180 yards on the ground. Slotback Nick Moore has 357 receiving yards - 42 shy of the mark he set last year in his sophomore season.

TRENDS:

* Lions are 4-0 ATS vs. a team with a losing record.
* Blue Bombers are 4-0 ATS in their last four Monday games.
* Under is 6-1 in Lions last seven games in August.
* Under is 8-1 in the last nine meetings in BC.

EXTRA POINTS:

1. Max Hall, who started three games at quarterback for the NFL’s Arizona Cardinals in 2010, has yet to run a play in a CFL game.

2. BC has given up five touchdowns in each of its two losses while allowing three total in its three victories.

3. The Lions are 2-0 at home.

Argonauts at Alouettes: What bettors need to know

A bye week and a change at coach give the Montreal Alouettes a chance to put their rough start to the season behind them. General manager Jim Popp will be on the sidelines when the Alouettes host the East Division-leading Toronto Argonauts on Thursday. Dan Hawkins lasted only five games as coach as his offensive schemes failed to gel with quarterback Anthony Calvillo, who expressed frustration with the coaching after a Week 2 loss to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

The Argonauts entered their bye week on a high note after backup quarterback Zach Collaros led them to a 38-12 home victory over the BC Lions. An extra week’s rest means starter Ricky Ray will likely return Thursday, but Collaros showed his value by throwing 253 yards and three touchdowns against one of the best defences in the league. Toronto’s defence limited the Lions to field goals on four red-zone opportunities in its strongest performance and could prove very difficult for a Montreal offence that has only produced only seven touchdowns.

TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, TSN

ABOUT THE ARGONAUTS (3-2, 3-2 ATS): Running back Chad Kackert remains out with a knee injury, meaning backup Curtis Steele will likely start Thursday after recording a pair of rushing touchdowns in the fourth quarter against BC. Steele looked comfortable with Collaros, but will need to play a larger blocking role for Ray, who plays a more traditional style under centre. Defensive tackle Khalif Mitchell recorded a sack against his old team and was not flagged for any penalties in Week 5 - something Toronto’s defence needs to replicate to remain effective.

ABOUT THE ALOUETTES (2-3, 2-3 ATS):
Despite the early struggles, Calvillo has still thrown for 1,035 yards, connecting with slotback S.J. Green for 347 yards and four touchdowns. Running back Brandon Whitaker recorded 162 yards and one touchdown in Week 5 - his strongest performance since returning from injury. Montreal’s defence, led by linebackers Chip Cox and Shea Emry and safety Kyries Hebert, has been solid despite allowing 139 points. Cox leads the team with 39 tackles, while Hebert has 31 and a team-leading seven sacks and Emry has two of the team’s league-leading seven interceptions.

TRENDS:

* Under is 4-0 in the last four meetings in Montreal.
* Under is 5-0 in the last five meetings.
* Argonauts are 5-13 ATS in their last 18 meetings.

EXTRA POINTS:

1. The Argonauts defeated the Alouettes 27-20 in the East Division finals last year en route to their Grey Cup victory.

2. Popp - Montreal’s general manager since 1996 - has served two previous stints as coach: one game in 2001 and for 22 games over the 2006 and 2007 seasons, compiling a 10-13 regular-season record.

3. Toronto is 2-0 against East Division opponents.

CFL Rankings: Week 7

Last week's ranking in parentheses.

1. Saskatchewan Roughriders (1) The Riders remain undefeated entering Week 7 and should be rested and ready following their bye week. Unfortunately, so will this week's opponent, the Calgary Stampeders. Saskatchewan took the first meeting this season at home thanks to a dominant second half. Friday night's showdown should be a beauty at McMahon Stadium.

2. Calgary Stampeders (2)
The QB carousel continues to spin around in Calgary, with Kevin Glenn expected to start Friday's game against Saskatchewan after Drew Tate suffered a setback in his recovery. There are those that believe Bo Levi Mitchell should be the man to lead the offense this week but John Hufnagel has elected to go with the proven veteran. Probably a wise choice against an opportunistic Riders defense.

3. B.C. Lions (4)
I'll bump the Lions up a spot this week as they showed me just enough in Monday's narrow win over Winnipeg. I do think it's only a matter of time before the B.C. offense gets rolling. Perhaps an extra week of practice will allow them to fine-tune. Defensively, the Lions have been good, but not great. Again, the bye week should serve them well in that regard.

4. Toronto Argonauts (3)
The Argos will have an opportunity to make a statement and take full control of the East Division on Thursday night in Montreal. They'll have Ricky Ray back in the fold but it sounds like WR Dontrelle Inman will be a no-go once again. RB Chad Kackert remains sidelined as well, but Curtis Steele filled in admirably in his first start last week.

5. Montreal Alouettes (5)
It will be interesting to see how the Als respond on Thursday in their first game following the dismissal of much-maligned and short-lived head coach Dan Hawkins. With WR Jamel Richardson and RB Brandon Whitaker sidelined, it's beginning to look a lot like 2012 all over again. We'll see who steps up and fills the void.

6. Hamilton Tiger-Cats (8)
Last week's win in Edmonton had to feel awfully good for a Ti-Cats squad that has been ravaged by injuries and marred by its share of bad luck early in the campaign. They'll have a chance to build some solid momentum with a winnable road game in Winnipeg coming up following their bye week.

7. Edmonton Eskimos (6)
I like the fight the Eskimos have shown in recent weeks, but they're having a tough time getting over the hump with the personnel they have on board. I'm not sure they've ever recovered from the Ricky Ray trade last year. Until they find a quarterback to lead the offense in the long-term, they'll continue to struggle to reach the in column. Mike Reilly doesn't look like the answer.

8. Winnipeg Blue Bombers (7)
Justin Goltz is the right man to lead the Bombers offense this season but he's going to need some guys to make plays for him moving forward. The Bombers came up just short in B.C. on Monday, thanks in large part to an inspired effort from the defense. The good news is, the East Division is still wide open but I suspect the Bombers will ultimately be the odd-team out.

CFL Saturday: What bettors need to know

Montreal @ Saskatchewan (-11.5, 54)

The Saskatchewan Roughriders will try to rebound from their first loss when they host the floundering Montreal Alouettes on Saturday. The Roughriders would like to avoid the tailspin they found themselves in last year, when they lost five straight after winning their first three. One area in which Saskatchewan needs to improve to regain its winning form is on the offensive line, which allowed four sacks on quarterback Darian Durant last week after only allowing seven over the first five games.

The Alouettes face much more serious problems following a 38-13 rout at the hands of the rival Toronto Argonauts and the news that slotback Jamel Richardson will miss the remainder of the season because of a knee injury. General manager Jim Popp replacing coach Dan Hawkins on the sidelines has done little to reverse Montreal’s fortunes, while veteran quarterback Anthony Calvillo will have one less option available as he tries to salvage what is looking like his worst season in more than 10 years. Calvillo is completing 59 percent of his passes with six touchdowns and five interceptions.

TV: 4 p.m. ET, TSN

ABOUT THE ALOUETTES (2-4): Rookie Tyron Carrier, who returned a punt 78 yards for a touchdown in Week 1, will get another chance to return kicks for Montreal after running back Noel Devine fumbled three times in the loss to Toronto. Linebackers Chip Cox, Kyries Hebert and Shea Emry lead the team in tackles, sacks and interceptions, respectively, but Montreal’s defense is prone to losing focus for large portions of time. It surrendered three touchdowns to Argonauts quarterback Ricky Ray in a little over one quarter last week.

ABOUT THE ROUGHRIDERS (5-1):
Running back Kory Sheets has a remarkable 845 rushing yards through six games, on pace to shatter the CFL single-season record of 2,065 yards set by Mike Pringle in 1998. Veteran slotback and all-time CFL receiving yards leader Geroy Simon has adjusted well to his new team, catching nine passes for 194 yards and one touchdown over his first three games. Durant’s favorite target has been slotback Weston Dressler, who has 387 receiving yards, while slotback Chris Getzlaf has five touchdown catches.

TRENDS:

* The over is 9-1 in the last 10 meetings in Saskatchewan.
* The over is 8-3 in Roughriders' last 11 games overall.
* Roughriders are 0-8 ATS in their last eight games in August.
* Alouettes are 1-7 ATS in their last eight Saturday games.

EXTRA POINTS:

1. Montreal’s defense has allowed 177 points - second-most in the league.

2. Durant has yet to throw an interception.

3. Saskatchewan is 2-0 at home, where the 101st Grey Cup final will be played Nov. 24.

Calgary @ B.C. (-3, 54)

The BC Lions might have a little revenge in mind Saturday when they host the Calgary Stampeders, who defeated them at BC Place in last year’s West Division final and again in Calgary in Week 1. The Lions are 3-0 at home this year, but if any team can ruin that record, it’s the red-hot Stampeders. Calgary has won four in a row and knocked off the division-leading Saskatchewan Roughriders 42-27 last week on the strength of four rushing touchdowns from running back Jon Cornish.

The Lions, who are coming off a bye week, have scored only 143 points and quarterback Travis Lulay has yet to throw for more than 300 yards in a game, leaving extra pressure on running back Andrew Harris, who was limited to 56 rushing yards in BC’s last contest. Calgary’s defense limited Harris to 20 yards on five carries in Week 1 and will try to do the same Saturday, with defensive lineman Charleston Hughes (five sacks) leading the charge. Veteran quarterback Kevin Glenn is likely to start for the Stampeders.

TV: 9 p.m. ET, TSN

ABOUT THE STAMPEDERS (5-1):
Cornish, who ran for 172 yards against the Lions in Week 1, has seven rushing touchdowns, on pace to eclipse the career-high of 11 he set last year. Glenn has completed 65-of-90 passes filling in for starter Drew Tate, who suffered a setback in his recovery from an elbow injury. Veteran slotback Nik Lewis leads Calgary’s receiving corps with 381 yards on 31 catches. Offensive lineman Dimitri Tsoumpas suffered a concussion last week, joining Tate on the injured list.

ABOUT THE LIONS (4-2): Wide receiver Emmanuel Arceneaux is embracing his return to the CFL following a two-year absence, averaging 20.2 yards per catch and leading BC with 384 receiving yards. Slotbacks Nick Moore (357) and Courtney Taylor (235) are also key contributors to the receiving corps. Linebacker Solomon Elimimian leads the team with 29 tackles as the Lions’ defense has surrendered more than 21 points in only two games - both losses.

TRENDS:

* The over is 14-2 in Stampeders last 16 games overall.
* The Stampeders are 9-1 ATS in their last 10 meetings in BC.
* The Lions are 4-0 ATS in their last four Saturday games.
* The under is 7-1 in the Lions' last eight games in August.

EXTRA POINTS:

1. Cornish was named offensive player and Canadian player of the week after his performance against Saskatchewan.

2. Lulay has 193 rushing yards, while Calgary’s quarterbacks have combined for 95 yards on the ground.

3. The Lions have won their last nine regular-season home games.
