This might be some of the worst bracketing/seeding i have ever seen by the comittee.....and i'm not even mad cuz my team didnt get in, they had no prayer....but some of these decisions?

Wisconsin a #6 seed.......they were ranked 12th going into the big 10 tourney, and they win it, blowing out Illinois, and they get a #6, while Illinois gets a #5

Maryland gets a #4?....you gotta be kidding me..going into the ACC tourney, most believed they had to win a game just to get in, they play good for one weekend, and become a highly ranked team...
icon_rolleyes.gif

Lousville drops to a #10 seed?...no way, they may have struggled at the end, but to say there are 39 better teams than Louisville is a joke....

Arizona drops to a #9?.....lol, Duke really deserves to have to play Arizona in the second round? that is a joke, Arizona is a #6 or better at least....

Utah State doesnt get in? they were ranked up until the last week of the season, and they drop 40 places by losing in the semi's of their tourney?

Richmond in the same regional as St Joseph's from the same conference...that is a breach of their own rules.....

NCState a #3 seed?...thats a little high for them....

man, their must have been some funny smoke in that room this year...

St. Joes gets a #1 seed plus play in New Jersey. They have to be very happy. Looking forward to the East Regional final if its St. Joe's Vs. Ok St. the lower seed will be favored. Go figure.

Utah St. got the royal screw, they lost 3 games by a grand total of 14 pts. all season.

I was stunned to see Wisconsin as a number 6 seed, but aren't they playing in Milwaukee, if that is the case Pitt is the team that got screwed.

and Kansas getting to play in Kansas City and then St. Louis, why don't they just go ahead and move the Final Four to Allen Fieldhouse.

they beat the 3, 2 & 1 seeds in the top confrence on 0 days rest. that speaks VOLUMES. I mean what do you want them to be an 11?! please with the '

all you MD haters need to get real sick of hearing about this. give them credit. they played hard and earned their victorys it was'nt a fluke. people are giving them the new england patriot treatment and it is unjustified.

cuse is the 5 seed in that bracket. do you want the ACC CHAMP seeded below cuse?! think before you speak.

NOT GIVING THEM THE NEW ENGLAND PARTRIOT TREATMENT AT ALL.....THEY DESERVE TO BE THERE, BUT TO JUMP FROM THE BUBBLE TO A #4 SEED IN ONE WEEKEND, IS A LITTLE MUCH....I AGREE WITH THE CONFERENCE STRENGHT, NO DOUBT, BUT IN THAT CASE, WHY WOULDNT TEAMS LIKE NORTH CAROLINA, AND WAKE FOREST THAT FINISHED AHEAD OF THEM IN THE LEAGUE BE SEEDED HIGHER?

THATS ALL, AND I AM NOT A MARYLAND HATER, I POINTED OUT SEVERAL DISCREPANCIES I SAW WITH THE BRACKETS, THAT WAS JUST ONE OF THEM....

They are not the ACC champs, they are the ACC TOURNEY winner, they are the 6th place team from the ACC with a losing conference record...

There is a difference...I think you have to give more weight to what happened over 16 game conference season , then what happened over a 4 day mini tourney.....

once again, no doubt they deserve to be in, just not as a #4 seed...

oh and by the way, i do think before is speak....i'm even able to have a debate without trying to insult the opponent...

BTW, I thought the conference rule was no teams from the same conference in the same half of the bracket, certainly not the regional, therefore making the placement of the Spiders totally legit.

If it was regional, then no conference could ever have more than 4 teams without this being breached.

St. Joseph at the Meadowlands makes a lot of sense for the NCAA if only because of the large following the Hawks have. The drive from Philly up the Jersey Turnpike ( I think that is still the route) to E. Rutherford is maybe 4 hours. Expect big crowds for St. Joe's games. Money talks again, and as usual.

BF you are correct. it may be a huge jump for 1 weekend but no other weekend will feature 3 games with top caliber teams like that. this is the only time such a move is possible.

Even Shorter. Try 2 hours, but I think Bobby Lutz and crew may have something to say about that...

Labeeb, u may be right, but i thought the rule was you couldnt meet in a regional unless there were more than 4 teams from your conference...Obviously, in many years, there are more than 4 teams from a conference...

But the A-10 got Xavier, st joes, Richmond, and Dayton

You guys are kidding yourselves if you think filling stadiums is a problem for the NCAAs. Unless the games are being played in domes (not counting the Final 4 of course) they are almost without exception sold out. All they gotta do to avoid having empty seats is not hold it in LA
icon_smile.gif
In any case the sweet 16 will never have a problem selling games out in normal arenas. Each team gets about 15% of the allocation and there is plenty of demand for those, not to mention the remaining 40% gets bought up real quickly by those that don't get tix through the school or just local area fans that want to catch the games. If you see empty seats, they are sold just that the fans wanted to see the other game as the games are all sold by session, not game.

I know about a few of the cities that are holding first/second round matches and as of last week, before you even knew who would be there the games were sold out and scalpers were getting markups on their seats.

Sweet 16 games on in are naturally easier sells. My point is the commitee does take geography into consideration, and it shows. Take last year for example. The most obvious example is the huge advantage Syracuse had playing 2 games in Albany NY., then consider that Milwaukee based Marquette winning at Minneapolis, and Texas winning at San Antonio to advance to the Final Four along with Syracuse, and you can see that playing close to home makes a difference, (Kansas defeated semi-local Arizona in Anaheim to grab the 4th spot). Early round games especially the noon EST. starts will have some empty seats, perhaps the seats are sold, but are no shows, can't be sure.

Trust me Wil, the seats sell. If you see empty seats it is because they were sold to fans of the other teams playing at the site that just didn't bother to show up yet. The tickets are bought in a package in every case, you can't just buy tickets for one day or one session. That is why the secret for ticket buyers is to always just wait by the door during the first day of the local games. Not long after any game ends you will see hundreds of fans for the team that just lost and more than half of them are dying to offload their tickets for the next game as they would rather just get out of town, especially if it was an upset of a popular team. You can almost certainly score good seats to the national championship game this year and just about any year for close to face value, if not under it, by just hanging out at a bar near the stadium and then rushing over there just as the game goes final.

The committee always favors putting teams close to home, that is one of their mandates. They have that whole story about how this tournament is so disruptive to the student side of their lives and they are supposed to minimize that. Yeah right. I still don't think it makes that big of a difference to play close to home. It still isn't the home stadium and the other teams get plenty of fans in the door as well. Only time it really matters is if you are playing a team that just doesn't get any road support (think Miami in the Fiesta Bowl against Ohio State). Syracuse didn't win the title because they played two games in Albany, they won it because they were just better than the opposition and proved it handily.

put utah state in the tourney instead of air force - and utah state beats north carolina. put utah state in the tourney instead of UTEP - and utah state beats maryland. put utah state in the tourney instead of dayton - and utah state beats depaul. put utah state in the tourney instead western michigan - and utah state beats vanderbilt. put utah state in the tourney instead of byu - and utah state beats syracuse.

to me - utah state's snub is similar to what happened to butler in 2002 - a team that was probably a sweet 16 team left at home.

of the 5 teams i listed - utah state would be favored over all 5 of them.

then again - the big west has been f****d by the ncaa for some time now - so why stop here.
